Growing up was mixture of mining and farming villages, shoes were took off at the door, but all the miners use to end up spitting because of the dust, so the TB chance and general muck from farming is probably why.£71.93/ £180.003

I think that years ago we didnt tend to take our shoes off as people didnt have fitted carpets. It was usually tiles or lino and a rug. We also didnt have central heating. Do you remember the tan slippers with a tarten lining and a pompom?Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle9

Eenymeeny said:Thanks everyone, you've reminded me that when I first started working from home I used to wear shoes as I felt more business-like. I'm sure that you move more quickly and safely in shoes/trainers. I've got into wearing slippers while being at home all day and feel that I'm shuffling rather than walking these days. Time to have a root through the shoe cupboard...
I must admit to shuffling around the garden in slippers often too....
I'm forever getting told off for mowing the lawn in my slippers! However, I do agree, slippers are not good for your gait. I've been wearing them extensively since retirement "several" years ago, and I admit that I shuffle around the house. We walk 2-3 miles in walking boots every morning so, I'm getting the exercise, so I'm thinking I must find a pair of slip-on shoes to wear around the house. (If I have to tie laces, I know I'll revert to slippers as it's a long way down to tie them up!).8 -
I don't remember people taking off their shoes indoors. I do remember that when I visited my family in Ireland but that was a rural area and it was usually muddy wellies to take off.8
-
I grew up in a large family - we had a Boot room to take off your wellies and we either kept our welly boot socks on or grabbed any clean indoor shoes - even visitors! The difference was that we had all slate flooring on the ground floor. It was’t like babies or children crawled or played on this floor.9

POKE!
As it's so warm and dry this week, I thought I would get on with some autumn-cleaning, especially getting the heavy winter woollens washed so we can dry them on hangers in front of open windows while we can...
...only to find a huge moth-hole bang in the middle of the front of My Intended's heavy winter jumper, argh... some extreme darning will be necessary...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I got out all the winter clothes last week and packed up my summer clothes, and changed to the winter duvet and bedding. Then it has been so sunny all week I have had to dig summer clothes back out and sleep on top of the duvet! I'm not complaining though - a long, warm Autumn would be a lovely thing.Live the good life where you have been planted.
