Preparing for Winter V

I seem to be spending some time on the supermarket websites (have to do online) looking for what I've forgotten I may need come autumn/winter/calamity, etc.6

I think rather than panic because of possible problems stocking up while things are available is only common sense. What I think we'll all have to do is adapt to a new way of life (for us) which has probably been the 'normal' way of life for humans throughout history and learn to live how they did in terms of what we eat and when. I feel that seasonal may become normal again rather than everything from everywhere being available in every shop 365 days of the year. We've all been a bit indulged by having 'plenty' and taking 'plenty' for granted and it feels like a bit of a shock to think that 'plenty' isn't there now doesn't it? I got into a tizz when the supermarket delivery of the head of broccoli that I ordered was substituted by a 1 person portion of ready chopped broccoli and then found the spinach that came in the same order had turned to slime in the bag by the next day but I had frozen peas so it was sort of OK, The potatoes I had in the same order (last Wednesday late afternoon) had all sprouted when I went to use them yesterday so I've cooked them all and won't have lost them. We have to re-think how we order and use and store everything fresh or lose money and have our meal plans thrown into disarray. Fruit that normally keeps weeks in the bowl is wrinkling in a few days too so I've got some frozen berries in and some dried fruits too. Adapt and thrive maybe? stay the same and live a cross life is the alternative.8

Someone on the radio this morning (I was half awake so don't know exactly who), said instead of living our lives Just In Time, it will be Just In Case from now on.10

It's like winter already up here! I've ordered 2 calor gas cylinders for the new heater.8

If you keep taunting me with that beautiful object, I WILL find my way up North and get you.7

That heater is lovely and a far cry from the ugly calor gas one we had.7 -
It’s a lovely day here in North Yorkshire. It’s hard to get your head around preparing for winter on a sunny day.
boazu - if my potatoes sprout I plant them. I’ve got spuds growing in pots all over the garden.6 -
Sad to say that today is beautiful but winter will come regardless, not for a while but it will come and when it does I want to be stocked up and warm so I'll think winter now, in a heatwave in June, I must be mad!7

I had a nice surprise today. British Gas e mailed me with my latest statement. I have been paying £73.50 a month for my gas and electric since Oct. When I accessed my account it said I was £153.63 in credit and I was paying too much. I clicked on ‘change my DD’ and they reduced it to £41.36. Happy customer.7
