Re. thermals, I got the marks ones in the end, because I remembered I have a 20% off voucher and today was the last day. Black (NOT spider-man! LOL) and DH is well pleased. Result!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Heavy rain and strong winds here today. Have just looked at local Facebook page and there is a flood warning out for the street at the bottom of the hill.

A half day at work today so I spent this afternoon in the garden. I like to make the most of daylight hours to keep the vitamin d topped up.
DH and I picked all the leaves up, cleared the drains and swept the paths. DH topped up the screen wash in the cars.
I've just checked the weather forecast, we are due some cold days and nights next week.

    Stay warm

My garden's been white and deep-frozen for a week. Not thawed out at all, been minus 5-9 at nights.
  • I posted earlier about trying thermal curtains in my sun room which was very very cold and unusable as a room - big difference! Not perfect and still too cold to work in there but we think changing the flooring will help that. But the curtains have certainly helped. And made a draft excluder! Both have stopped the small draft coming in and insulated that part of the house better,
  • all water butts emptied and taps left open. De-icer is handy. Winter kit in car. Stashed up with fuel bags, indoors as slippy out= dangerous to carry. Dark and ominous out, here we go, winter is coming
  • Yes I had a tidy round today outside, I hear it's supposed to be a cold one, maybe a first frost for us Southerners.... Nothing compared to Mardatha I'm sure... I always spend most of my week fretting that the OH is going to be cold bobbing about out in the ocean for 6 days at a time, however, he assures me that they are all warm and toasty down in the bunks as thats where the engines are:eek: I try not to think about it.....Hot chockie for us tonight, although youngest DD 14 is always complaining that she is warm enough and doesn't enjoy the old style pleasures such as a hot water bottle, fluffy Pj's and a hot chocolate before bed.... The youth of today Hurrruph!!!!!

just a warning to make sure you have enough fuel in. My supplier of my specialist fuel has been out of stock for 3 days and is not expecting any more for another three days. Am I glad that I stockpiled. Now also to think of the backup plan as my stove will not run without electricity and we will already be darn close to running at max capacity on the grid. No gas here

My backup plan is to keep my heavy big insulating curtain closed if there is no sunlight and to stay in my small snug, with dashes to the kitchen or loo as needed. My heating in the snug will just be candles and I have my woollen wrapovers and blankets ready. I just need to make sure that I have ready, straight from the cupboard foods, foods that do not need any heat

just back to add that my large good vac flask will always be kept full, stays hot for eight hours and I have just ordered a few instant self-heating meals with a shelf life of 3 years
  • It's properly cold and frosty here today. Lovely and warm inside my house.

Everything is ready to go if we have a cold winter. It's a nice feeling to be so prepared.:)
