Thanks Mar, book marked to read later.

Interesting to note that it looks like we have night time lows of freezing point for at least the next week starting on Tuesday. That fleece blanket looks set to be cellotaped to the front door again then. ;) I have been looking into buying a door curtain but they are really quite expensive. I have made them in the past so looks like I will be cobbling something together again pretty soon. I know of a fabric place about 8 miles away so I think it would be worth a look in there.
  • Fuddle, Dunelm had some reasonably priced door curtains in recently - I don't think they are on the website. If you have a store nearby, I have a couple of vouchers that I could let you have.

thanks pandamonium your offer is very kind but please keep them for yourself or others who really need them. I'm a bit tight by choice these days ;)

There's Dunelm, actually a Range too near the fabric store so will have a wander when I get to doing the job. Thanks :)

I got Dunelm curtain liners and use them as door curtains, they are very good. I have a single-glazed all-glass back door and the icy air radiates off it, the curtain liner hung across it cuts stops it.

Nice to see there's a new thread since the last time I've been on here.

It's been so mild for months now and I want a little bit of frost and snow, just enough that it doesn't cause much disruption.:D

I got some new boots in the Black Friday sales.

Have you looked in charity shops or asked on Freecycle - I have been lucky enough to find a couple in a local CS as a stopgap as they weren't my preferred colour (redonated those), then I got a couple on Freecycle - heavy velvet ones, and you can certainly feel the benefit.

I initially bought a door curtain from flea bay I think as it was very cheap (although hideous). That curtain is now the lining of my current front door curtain - plus a fleece cut up for extra lining. I have enough material to double quilt the whole house probably as have been a sewing and fabric maniac since I was a small child, so am going to make a new door curtain for between the kitchen and hall this winter (although I have a bazzillion other projects on the go and should probably just finish one of those first....)

was going to go and get christmas tree this weekend - and as it's so lovely and sunny and crisp would be an ideal day to do it (try choosing which tree to chop down in a gale!) - but the christmas tree farm is just beyond the out of town shopping area and I fear the black friday weekend shoppers are something I don't want to ahve to fight through. bleugh.

I can't believe how warm & sunny it is here today, 13 degrees when I went out in the car, that was after I'd been out ages giving it a good inside clean-it's tidy, clean & sorted ready for winter now with no litter!

No wind, hardly any cloud, and quite warm....and it's nearly December.....had to take my fleece off when scrubbing the car I was boiling.........calm before the storm????

amazon do a very good winter set for the car, ours came last week. I can`t put the link but it is called
AA car essentials winter car kit with folding shovel. It costs £15

    shovel
    torch
    high viz vest
    foil blanket
and it comes in a very neat zipped bag

excellent value and quality. Ours is now in the car

Just sent for one of these for my daughter who is a nurse, and does 50 miles round trip, leaving home at 7am and getting back at nearly 9 pm.

Thanks Kittie, it will be an early Xmas present-she will think I'm over cautious though....never mind!

If it's any help, they also do the AA kit in Argos, and I took my car in for a winter servise and got a free car kit with fold up shovel, mini wind up torch high viz jacket,de=icer and scraper in zip up bag, so might be worth a look on the diffrent local garages to see if they are doing the same if you'v not already had a winter check up and it's something you normaly book. hth
