I heard of Katie Hopkins here on Mse. The only people I've heard about this woman from are people who supposedly cannot stand her. Still not read her myself that I can recall. An awful lot of people who don't like her must be keeping her employed I think.

I wouldn't have said the DM was an upper middle class paper. The people I know that I think of as upper middle read the Times, Torygraph, Indy or Grauniad. I think of the DM as read mostly by people who are not terribly well educated but whose sense of identity is firmly based in working for a living and resenting "benefits as a lifestyle choice". That seems to me to be the demographic most of its articles aim to appeal to.
We used to get every paper on a Sunday, none the rest of the time. Now we get ....zero. Even when I go to waitrose I ignore the free paper and coffee. I think the idea of walking around slurping coffee is pretty foul when you consider how likely I am to fall over...it would be horrid for fellow shoppers. And papers bore me often. If any one else at home wants one I'll pick one up, or if I'm feeling uncharacteristically enthusiastic I'll pick one up for any lifestyle features. I'm rarely enthusiastic, and rarely at waitrose so.....very, very few newspapers. Certainly not paying for one.0 -
Wish I was as broke as she is.
If she sold up and moved to Lincolnshire, she'd be in a bloody stately manor.I can't add up.0 -

[Between July and December 2013 it had an average daily readership of approximately 3.951 million, of whom approximately 2.503 million were in the ABC1 demographic and 1.448 million in the C2DE demographic.]
ABC1 and C2DE are "taken to equate to middle class and working class respectively" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRS_social_grade
2.503m ABC1s out of a total of 3.951m sales [so 63% of the total] is pretty much bang on the population average, since a little more than half of our population [e.g. say 55%] are now ABC1s [unsurprisingly heavily weighted towards C1s].
certainly i'd say that most of the token Mail readership amongst As and even Bs comes from the tens of thousands of copies given away by British Airways every day.
i certainly cannot imagine more than a token few male As under the age of say 60 & female As under about the age of say 45 reading the Mail, other than on an airplane. i just find the idea implausible.FACT.0 -
Welcome to the real world.
I wonder how the f***ing Fulfords are getting on. Did anyone see the documentary where they were clinging onto the country pile?0 -

I never saw it X years ago - but I've been watching it in the past 1-2 weeks... no idea whether I'm watching a re-run or something new.
Looks like it's a new series: Life is Toff http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/tv-news/news/the-effing-fulfords-to-return-in-bbc-threes-life-is-toff0 -

Thank you for this information. I might do some research. I would be happy to make a financial contribution. I could comfortably manage around £25/30 a week now.0 -

You can find your local group here: http://www.rda.org.uk/rda-groups/ I live in London and was surprised at how many city farms there were near me. They'll definitely appreciate experienced help.
I took my pupils to RDA ( I work in a special school), but sadly our local RDA centre has closed. Although they are fundraising for a new one. When I eventually get to retire, I plan to spend time helping with RDA and fundraising for them.0 -

Interesting. I still think you'll find a higher proportion of DM readers among C1 than A, so I still don't think the DM is mainly read by "upper middle class". If anyone has stats to show otherwise, I'd be interested, though.
ETA Just noticed that the flying pig posted something similar.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
