UKPC Parking Fine

Somewhat on topic:
Have people noticed the signs gone up outside the Odyssey? Stating that you agree to pay them a (£100) fee if you park on the double yellow lines...0 -
Maybe I am just old-fashioned, but when parking in places which I know belong to retail premises or businesses or a collection of retail premises or businesses I know that I should have a legitimate reason for parking there, such as giving my custom to those retailers or business during my stay at their car park and I also know that I should then leave the car park immediately after visiting said retailers or businesses. Isn't that the proper use of any car park belonging to retail premises/businesses, whether they have signs displaying conditions of contract or not. Or have I got it all wrong?0

Sounds about right. On the other hand, they have no right to extort money out of people who abuse their trust. No contract means no breach of contract. Unless they set reasonable terms and conditions, it's difficult to argue that someone is abusing them.
The Odyssey situation is a little boggling. I would not feel that a big retail place has any business trying to "fine" people parking (even if illegally) on a public road. That's up to the council/police/roads service (whoever is responsible).0 -

There are no "public" roads around The Odyssey, all roads are part of Belfast Harbour Estate and policed by the Harbour Police http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belfast_Harbour_Police0 -
Um, depends what you mean. Treating the Harbour as a form of local government organisation, their being responsible for the roads doesn't make them non-public.
And in any case, the Odyssey trust still doesn't own the roads, so it's none of their business.0
