So I work on building sites, and the other day I was sent to Shirley nr Birmingham to a building site we work on. I arrived to see that the phase of the works was being block paved (normally we all park the vans on site. The site is located behind the busy high street, and the little patch of land and the road that runs behind is a quiet road, that ends in a dead end but big square piece of tarmac ground with a few businesses backing onto it, inc Asda. There are skips dotted around the edge etc.

So I asked the site agent where I should park, as I can see double reds and signs all down the road, but nothing in the big square part. The site agent tells me to tuck up in the corner next to one of the skips, and said "people parked there all week without problems"

And so after unloading my stuff I park up and start work.

At about 11am, the forklift driver runs into the plot I was in, and tells me Ive got a ticket. I go to see how much it is, and Im shocked as its £100!! And if I pay within 14 days its £60!

Surely charging that much is illegal? I mean, if I have to pay, Im forwarding all costs to the builder, but I wanted to see if there was anything I can do about this? Seems rather a lot of money to charge when a local car park they run charges £3 for all day parking.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Unless it's a company, lease or hire car do nothing until a notice arrives in the post. In the meantime study the Newbies sticky and learn how to appeal. UKPC is very, very easy to swat.

So, feeling slightly better about it :) why is there no rush? they put a pretty sharp deadline behind the discounted rate!

If they want keeper liability to apply they must wait at least 28 days before issuing a Notice to Keeper.

Ignore the early-payment bribe, you are looking to obtain a discount of 100%.

The Newbies thread explains why you wait. Forget the discount bribe, they do that deliberately. The driver DOES NOT appeal. The keeper does, once they get the first letter in the post around Christmas/New Year. All explained in the Newbies thread and no need to rush reading it.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I presume silence from the OP on this point means the OP is the registered keeper of the vehicle in question?
