I love the Elf on the Shelf tradition! Also Santa's footprints, more ideas here.

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!
  • VfM4meplse thank you so much for that link! some really good idea`s, love the foot prints but the "capture the magic" is great!! definitely doing that this year:) x

  • Betterlife, I never thought about the kids recognising your work! It's hard enough finding storage space for 2 kids presents never mind 4. When they're old enough to realise, I will have to start saving each month and buy last minute too. I'm thinking the high street vouchers might work better for me then I'm not tempted to use the money for bills etc.

Thanks very much for the offer of pm-ing the jpeg for the passport. It's very much appreciated x

I did it last year for my nephews and their favourite one was elfie decorating the tree with their pants!! They also loved him having a bath in marshmallows and blowing balloons up filling the small bathroom! X

  • This will be our third year of having our 2 elves, we have Binky Tinseltoes and Snowflake Tinseltoes, they are brother and sister.

Here are some of the things our elves have got up to in the past that my children loved:-

Toilet roll around the Christmas tree
Mummy's pants on the Christmas tree
Cheerios on the worktop writing my girls names
Tea party with elves and other teddies, Barbies etc
Elves playing scrabble with some funny words like bum and poo
    Elves each sat in skates
Elves hanging from curtain rail on a parachute made out of carrier bags and string
Pink toilet cistern block put in toilet so looked like Elves turned toilet water pink
Pile of chocolate wrappers on the floor
Elves dressing up In Build a Bear clothes

They arrive on 1 December and bring the advent calendars, passports etc.

Each day they leave small presents for my children such as colouring set, Christmas craft, choc coins, nail stickers, bracelets. On Christmas eve they leave a hamper with family game, popcorn, hot choc, new PJ's, magic key so father Christmas can get in and a Christmas book. They then travel back with father Christmas so are gone by Christmas morning.

  • How are your elfs arriving tomorrow? Last year was our first and I had the elf sat in front of the fireplace with his bag of chocolate coins (for his keep), a letter and his passport. This year he will bring their advent calendars.
    What will yours bring? X
  • Ours will arrive tomorrow in a box addressed to the children, with post marks from north pole, whilst kids are eating breakfast i will wizz out back door, run round to front door, leave box there, come back in house, press door bell from inside, and get little ones to check to see who it is :) i have made the elves passports, they have stockings to sleep in at night, and i designed a leeter from santa, explaining that elves are coming to stay, we are not doing the official elf on the shelf, as ours are not naughty, and the children are allowed to touch them.
the children picked there advent calenders this year themselves. :)

My plan is mostly not going to plan already!
Rudi (our elf) went AWOL - I found her sleeping bag, diary, passport, case, scarf, hair band.........but no Rudi!! So in a panic/moment of inspiration (not sure which.
Rudi's belongings were left under the tree with a quick note saying she forgot something and had to pop back home but she had left the advent calendars (and a bit of a mess).
She still hadn't turned up, so, we had a little rag doll (same style as Rudi but only 18cm), I got her a christmas jumper and a santa hat and the story unfolds that Rudi was in an accident and hurt her arm, she is currently in Rovaniemi Elf Hospital and her little sister Crinkle has come to stay for a while.
Sods law but luckily Rudi has now been located but she will now stay in hospital until tomorrow night so that Crinkle can have her turn in the limelight before she has to share with her sister (now planning for 2 elves instead of 1)
