Hi everyone,
This will be the 1st time we have done the Christmas Elf or Elf on the shelf, so really looking forward to that, i have my 2 Elves ready (bought from the gift company) and i have written a daily plan so it runs smoothly and that i don`t panic for idea`s last minute :) my Elves are not naughty ;)
Here`s my daily plan:
Dec 1st: Elves arrive in box/suitcase with hm passports & sleeping bags. (we will also put up decorations)
2nd: Elves make special breakfast which will be on the table when kids wake up (which will be decorated north pole cupcakes, milkshake in mini milk bottles with paper straws, hot choc with candy cane stirrers, gingerbread men, mini glazed donuts, will have to apologise to teacher for hyper kids lol)
3rd: craft activity presents (£1 bought from wilko)
4th: christmas cards from elves (ive bought xmas card that you put your own photo in, so going to do funny pics of elves to put in them)
5th: gift: christmas jumpers (the kids are allowed to wear xmas jumpers today as they are being visited by santa)
6th: xmas movie fun, make hm popcorn and watch dvd
7th: map for somewhere to go (weather permitting) or craft activities (gingerbread house)
8th: pot of lucky charms each for breakfast (£1 shop)
9th: the elves will leave out a box of cards and special pens for kids to write cards to there friends, they also have a little felt postbox card bag each which i got from £1 shop)

15th: special breakfast (as before)
16th: card making craft (for teachers gifts)
17th: coke a cola christmas truck coming to town
18th:?
19th: invitation to winter wonderland and map (we are going to nanny and grandads, who will put up a load of xmas trees in back garden which will be sprayed with snow, the garden will be alite with laterns and fairy lights, the shed is being made into a grotto and grandad already has his santa suit ready, they have brought presents for all grandchildren. we will be having a bbq, a fire pit for toasting marshmallows and roasting chestnuts which we foraged, we will also have hot chocs, all family will be there.

Not Elfing on the Shelf (ing?) this year as my LO is only 10 months but so want to do this when she's old enough. Just reading through yours and it sounds amazing! Can I come?! I would have been so thrilled with that when I was little. Prob would now and I'm almost 30!

  • Love your plan! I started writing a list last night as if I don't have it written down I forget what to do. I try and mix it up a bit so one day he hides, sometimes he leaves a present like letter writing kit or sometimes he does something a bit naughty.
I'm planning to do a North Pole breakfast one weekend. I find it's a way of organising the things I like to do but can easily be forgotten like looking at the Xmas lights one eve.
    Happy elfing! X
  • sticky77, same here, if i don`t write it down i would of forgot, with the hussle and bussle of christmas, 4 children and working from home things can get a bit hectic lol. ive just designed and made their passports, im calling them Jingle and Belle, perhaps not so original but easy for them to remember (the kids that is lol) yes the breakfasts im planning will be north pole themed, will probably end up swapping some days around, but just trying to fill them at mo, and there are other activities planned which we have`nt got dates for yet, cant believe how quickly it coming around!

  • Hi, it's my first year doing the elf thing and I am so jealous at how organised you are! Luckily my twins are only 2 so I'm considering this year my practice run.

I have got the elf (Tinseltoes) but I hadn't even thought about a passport :o can I please ask how you are all making them? And only realised the other day, I need to sort out a letter from Santa telling the kids why the elf is visiting.

I should probably start writing the list too. Otherwise this could be a catastrophe!

  • Hi cake4brains im not normally this organised, i find theres never enough hours in the day normally, and dont seem to achieve half of what i need to do lol, but December is only a few days away so i really need to pull my finger out!! finances are also quite tight this year, i am self employed and business has been really quiet the last couple month so i really need to cut down on presents, and to be honest im getting pretty fed up with the prices of everything and how christmas has become just about the presents under the tree! i really want to make the whole of December a special family month and make lots of new family traditions. i think also as my oldest has just turned 14, its got me quite emotional at just how quick there growing up! he`s kinda lost the Christmas magic so i`ve told him about my plans secretly so he doesnt spoil it for the others iynwim, with regards to the passport, i googled it to give me an idea, i then designed my own (i design stationery for my business), i still need to do the letter from santa aswell, must look into that tonight, and i need to make sleeping bags for the elves aswell xx

  • Thanks betterlife, I know what you mean about the cost of things. It's scary how quickly money disappears on Christmas presents and there's still not much to show for it. I've been saying all along, we won't buy the girls much as I don't want them being spoilt and expecting lots every year. The only problem is, I buy throughout the year then realise I've actually bought loads!

One good thing this year is we've lots of new children in the family now, so the adults have decided to do a Secret Santa so we don't have lots of grown ups to buy for.

I will have to Google the passport and letters. I'm a bit jealous that you design stationery, I bet they look fab :) I think you have to upload pics to Flickr or photobucket to post them

Psychological. I like the idea of sleeping bags!

I usually put a pic each night on Facebook of their shenanigans for my grown up friends who don't have young kiddies, they think its hilarious.

Our Xmas tree is fiddly so I don't like the kids to help me put it up, so last year I pretended the elves did it, I'm happy for the kiddies to decorate, so I just left it in the middle of the room, wrapped in loo roll instead of tinsel, with the elves climbing up it lol, kiddies were amazed...

  • cake4brains, ive not done the passports to fancy as i dont want the kids to no ive done them, as there use to seeing my work :) if you pm me id be happy to email you the jpeg file if you have a printer?
i use to buy throughout the year, but with 4 kids is hard to find places to store them till xmas lol, we had mice get into the cavity walls and go up to the lofty a couple of years ago, it didnt take us long to sort the problem, but they did damage alot of stuff stored up there, so i wouldnt want to risk putting stuff up there. and also my 2 oldest are 14 and 10 and they change there mind like the weather so its pointless buying for them too early (and they grow to fast as well lol) infact ive bearly started yet, as soon as i get a bit of money and think i`ll start, another bill comes up, or something needs doing to the car! im surprisingly calm about it though at the moment, but it wont last lol xxx
