I'm glad Martin has highlighted this thread coz I'd really like to find some part-time work in the near future

Most of the peeps I know with young kids do evening jobs at supermarkets or petrol stations as quite a few posters have mentioned already - coz they don't have to pay out for childcare if their OH is looking after the kids :T
I think their OHs have jobs with flexitime though so they can finish early-ish to get home in time to have the kids...

One of them used to have a job at an estate agent working weekends but after about 6 months they wanted her to start working in the week to cover holidays/sickness as well so she had to leave coz it wasn't worth paying childcare for.
