    Morning gang
not been on for a while as DD2 is having probs at the T she works at and is now on sick leave while we try to sort something out :(
They were making her work till midnight and then getting her in at 5am to cash up from the night shift, she is only 19 and they were promising her the earth but using her......
anyways, she has decided to go for teacher training and applied for a teaching assistant course, she is a clever girl with good grades but didnt want to go to uni as she has just done a two year course (equivalent to 2 or 3 A levels) which should lead her in to this sort of thing....
She applied for a job via a local paper and just got a call from a training academy, they say they are a government backed company and that she needs a special diploma before she can work.
They are called DYP recruitment and they were trying to get her to pay them £295 for an online diploma......luckily I came in just in time........they have sent several links to her email and keep calling her back.
I know it must be a scam as I have never heard of this diploma and who ever heard of learning to teach on an interactive course ??
Has anyone else had experience of this, and what shall she do to get on a course ?
I just rang the jobcentre and they had no idea how to do anything like this, they gave me connexions numbers but one is a dead line and the other just rings and rings...
I wouldn't be so worried but she is already feeling low and has been sent on a course to help her self esteem by the doc.
I know you clever lot have vast life experience and could guide us xxx

I see you have been given some advice re getting onto the teaching ladder for your DD, all that I can say is shame on the people at MrT to treat her that way

Having said that, I quite often found that it was the new young staff that got treated like dogsbodies as they don't like to speak out and say 'no'.

I hope she gets better soon wendy ((hugs)) to her and to you x
There's no place like home :)

Feeling down? Weak in body? Makes no difference to me, I think of you all when I'm sitting quietly.

Hugs and healing thoughts are always going your way.

    Bogof. 342. 24£3. 34£6. Etc

Do you know if Waitys have a set time for reductions?
We have one here but it is way out the way for me, but thinking it may be worth while taking a trip out as i dont think it is a very busy sort of shop so possibly lots of reductions.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all

I've just been adding the 82! names to the email but I haven't sent yet because I've caught up on here. It's more a general message about trolls mis-using the report button. I've also thanked them for the good work they do keeping the Forum ticking over.

That's it really! Obviously I don't want to upset everyone and I'm sorry if I've embarrassed you FC. Although what happened to you has 'kicked this off' I see it as more of a peaceful protest in email form about trolls trying to knock us all down.

You should of course have the final say so if you don't want me to send this little message I won't :)

Could she maybe contact the LEA and enquire about TA training? They will know what qualifications are needed. A lot of the TAs DS2 has been involved with started as volunteers at primary school and then accessed college training from there. Seems to be popular way of getting in to this type of work.
I don't know about your area but the LEA website here always has plenty of TA jobs advertised. Maybe have a look at what courses are available at local colleges?

Thak you fc and all who answered.....great minds, have just got off the phone to the LEA office and one of their experienced staff will call her this afternoon to discuss her options....so glad I walked in when I did :) xxxxxx

The best thing to look at regards to Teaching Assistant courses is to look at local colleges and see what they offer. Volunteering in a school is a great way to get experience, so she should contact her old schools and see if they can help.

Generally teachers will have a degree in a subject and teacher training (for secondary, a PGCE is the teaching part if teaching was not part of your initial course) and primary teaching is a degree all by itself if my memory serves correctly.

If she is struggling to get a voluntary place, then helping out with local youth groups, cubs/scouts/rainbows/brownies/guides etc. is also valuable experience, and gets her out the house of an evening and meeting new people.

I am unsure on the law, but fairly certain that you need more than 5 hours break between shifts, so T's may have been naughty. worth some research.
