Did you make it to the deli?
Oh yes! It was unbelievably busy in there! We justified the price of a sausage roll each for lunch (after a big hotel breakfast) but that was it and I don't think I had much, if any, change from a fiver
P.s morning all! Hopeful the mardy so and so at work will be on her best behaviour today!0 -

Just been catching up on the posts about food donations and whilst all donated items are really good and will be very useful, I really support emmap's donations.
Having been the recipient of an Xmas food parcel for several years, the idea for these was to contain enough food to cover Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Something with meat, but not tin pies like Fray Bentos, because although yummy not easy to cook on a 2 ring gas burner, some tinned potatoes, other tinned veg, rice, pasta etc - items to make a full meal.
But what made the boxes were the extras. Always one of those small wrapped Xmas puds (these were bogof in T recently, not sure if they still are), some fancy chocs, maybe a small iced xmas cake, posh biscuits and some treats for the kids.
Ours came from an Xmas scheme run by Waitrose which they still do, but there are plenty of other donation schemes in place for individuals or families in need - they usually have lists, so maybe think about the possible least likely donated items and get those? It is the treats that often get forgotten as folk understandably tend to want to make sure the basics are covered, but the treats make an ordinary food parcel into something a bit more special.
So I will try to match my donation to the ultimate recipient - soup kitchens are looking for something different to those who distribute food parcels. All donations are good and very important, but my kids only remember the sweets, chocolates and posh biscuits0 -
Good morning all, finally bowed to the inevitability of putting the heating on.Shortfatscotsbloke wrote: »Where I am there is a place called an 'Open House'. Dunno if it classed as a 'food bank' but they always accept anything I give them including loads of Dr Os, huge bags of 10p sweets and a couple of years ago, shed loads of the Weight Watchers meals we had a pdf for..
Didn't try to give them any of the vodka Reloaded though, ended up chucking about 20 cans down the sink. It was truly awful stuff, wasn't it..
We still have some reloaded in the spare room, OH won't let me get rid of it  He doesn't even drink it!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Morning all.
My take on the food bank thing is that the majority of donations are probably value/basics type products. So at Christmas I use the list of suggested items they provide but buy branded products instead. Using MSM I can work out which ones to buy and where in order to get the biggest APG/BM/PP and then use that to buy a few extra bits and pieces. Mine will also take little toys, so if there have been any freebies from things like priority moments that I haven't been able to use, those go in too.0 -
