There are no deer on this stretch of road.
They are on the NSL road a few miles away.

Have the deer promised you then?
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

So at 3am on the way to work down wide empty country roads with no side roads, driveways, pavements or anything, I'm meant to stick to 30? I guess that is too fast because it's dark, maybe 25 is more suitable?
Even at 80 I can stop within the distance I can see to be clear at some points of these 30/40 roads.
    ....

The limit on most country roads is NSL so 60mph.

Not sure why you need to stick to 30 if that isn't the limit.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

It is the limit, funnily enough.
  • These sort of threads always bring out the high and mighty to point out the possible results of speeding. The police would have more credibility if they really tackled accident blackspots rather than easy pickings.

They are often on a country road near me where the speed limit changes from 30 to 50 just after a bend. No schools, pedestrians, deer or side turnings. They are positioned 10m before the 50m sign to catch anyone who starts to speed up too early. Basically, it's a turkey shoot and yes, they caught me, too. I would argue with anybody that there is any safety issue involved here -- it's just another tax on the motorist.

No, it's a tax on SOME motorists. It keeps the taxes down for the law-abiding ones.

This is the type of road I am referring to, typically a few hundred yards of nothing to explain the 30mph limit.

If one cannot drive within the law, then expect to suffer penalties.

Nothing 'high and mighty' about that concept.

The Police will be happy to enforce other laws, catch burglars and so on.....once drivers start living up to their legal responsibilities.
Until then, expect the Police to be out looking for law breakers in cars.

But then, for some reason, the drivers who ignore the Law always know better.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Rarely see police out looking for law breakers in cars, thought gatsos replaced most of them.
  • Police like to enforce the easy laws. Perhaps they should concentrate on child abuse and seriously dangerous road users.
