Mobile speed check

So at 3am on the way to work down wide empty country roads with no side roads, driveways, pavements or anything, I'm meant to stick to 30? I guess that is too fast because it's dark, maybe 25 is more suitable?
Even at 80 I can stop within the distance I can see to be clear at some points of these 30/40 roads.
However, there was someone around...namely, the Police Officer who checked your speed?
But it could equally have been someone's granny out walking her dog?
Or someone out jogging? Or a cyclist who isn't well lit?
Hiding in a bush they're not likely to be hit....0 -
Everybody knows the road they are speeding along is quiet.....but only after the fact.
Until one has traveled along a road, one does not know who, or what [in terms of road users] is actually 'around'...unless one has an extremely efficient crystal ball?

Who knows?
The speed limit in place has been deemed sufficiently high that a driver complying has a good chance of coping, comfortably, with that [unexpected?] problem.
At any higher speed, the driver is 'taking a chance'.
OK, so, 9 times out of 10, the prevailing circumstances are such that a higher speed proves to be of no consequence.
But, to drive on that basis is still taking a chance.
Also, by driving within the speed limit, one is giving all other road users a fair to middling chance of being able to cope with our presence.
Which, surely, is only fair?
I have to agree, you cannot beat a bit of drama. :rotfl:0 -

So on a road with a 30mph limit at 3am you can see and process everything between your vehicle up to about 120 metres ahead? (and that distance is assuming that your reactions haven't been slowed by listening to music, talking etc)0 -

Yes, straight road and main beam.0 -
It's illegal, and the fine recinded
Instead a payment of £100 for compo should be made to the Scamera partnership to cover their loss of income, so that they can buy some mince pies for their christmas party0 -

Factually incorrect ............donuts are still king, mince pies will never catch onmince pies cause too many crumbs in the back of the van, I hate cleaning them out, so always stick to donuts.

You're required by law to stick to 30 if that's the speed limit of the road. No-one is suggesting that every speed limit, in every circumstance, is appropriate or even seems appropriate.
Mobile speed traps do always seem a bit "sneaky", but would anyone prefer a network of cameras that monitor speed everywhere, or the mandatory fitment of a black box that monitors speed and automatically generates a fine when a limit is exceeded?0 -

Good luck when a deer jumps out 10 metres ahead of you when you're travelling at 80 MPH, you'd probably still hit it at 30 MPH but the damage, and potential injury, at the higher speed will be a lot worse.0 -

There are no deer on this stretch of road.
They are on the NSL road a few miles away.
Your concern however, is noted and appreciated0
