My Dell Vostro has not had a day off in 4 years. I have been thinking seriously about an Asus Chromebook recently but based on my android tablet, would prefer the full range of software available with Windows, rather than a series of apps.

Android and Chromium OS are totally different and the apps are thefore also different.

BTW as you probably app is short for application which is another word for program which is the same as software. All doing the same thing sometimes in slighty different ways but the end result is the same.

It would be useful if the OP could outline the business requirements that the laptop is used for. There are many people on here that manage IT and businesses in the real world I'm sure that they would be happy to spec an appropriate machine.

I do an online business so its like a lifeline for me.

With the greatest respect if it's your only business machine then you need to be talking to some one who will offer support not a box shifting store.

Not just the actual hardware support but also backing up data and disaster recovery. It's no good if the pic dies and gets replaced next day you need someone to get it back to how it was the day before. not to how it came from the factory.
Your data may be online but delaying or losing orders could have big problems later on.
A decent techie would have cost far less over the few years than buying lost of hardware.

Remember also Apple has a different OS if you have bought software it may now work on a Mac. Or you have to upgrade it to different version possibly costing you time or money to get working again.
