He's done a test transfer and that all went through instantly. My only worry is could he get this money he transfers back...

It's not a lot in the terms of a car, but to me... It's loads! :)

He also runs a very successful eBay account over 10,000 feedback and I have kept all the messages back and forth as proof.

    Sound like enough?

    Your call!!

Do you think they are less secure than fifties?
    I wouldn't touch a £100 note with the proverbial barge pole! :D

Scottish money can be difficult to get rid of south of the border.

As far as I know, the banks of Scotland, Ireland and Jersey have issued £100 banknotes, but the bank of England hasn't (at least not yet).

Well, maybe the OP is based in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Jersey; in this case, if s/he knows what they look like, I presume it would be OK.

I would speak to paypal and see what they would consider acceptable proof when the buyer needs to collect the item. Even if you accept cash it may be counterfeit.

There is no need to ask PayPal, their rules are very clear. They need online tracking to the address they state is OK to send to, and due to the amount they must also have an online signature on delivery.

PayPal state clearly that their service is not suitable for items that need collection.

  • I'm sure it's been asked 1,000 times before, but just want to be sure I have 100% the best most up to date info.

Got someone coming to collect a car from me they won on eBay today £1.4k... Originally they wanted to pay Paypal but I have heard of a scam in which they say they never got the item, because they collected it. So I said no.

Then they said even friends and family. Again no.

Then I said cash. They said there unlikely to be able to get to the bak today.

    So suggested a bank transfer.

Are they going to walk away with the car, ringing there bank on the way demanding the money back?

    Thanks in anticipation
I have only read the first 3 posts on this thread so sorry if this has been suggested to you DONT ACCEPT A BANK TRANSFER.
£1.4k is not a lot of cash to get especially if they want the money. Most banks will let him cash that amount with a debit card and ID tomorrow morning.
It could be that the account sending money to you has been hacked and with the weekend etc could be the best time for this to work.

I used to think they could not be reversed - but have since read many times of reversals.

The banks are open tomorrow morning - so why the rush today? If you know you are buying a car you make plans to have the money ready.

Smells fishy to me. Even if not - why not stick to cash. Its how we did things in the old days you know.:)

    14 x £100 notes would do it.

    No?

How about 3111 nine bob notes? :D
