Logicor electric heating panels
Hi everyone
Looking for advice, last dec i went from oil heating to this new logicor electric heating system, looks very smart, but since it went in we was topping up our meter jan £265 feb £305 march £260 then during the summer back to £80. So then this oct we have put on £150 and already in nov just over £150 already! Eon have already said its rocketing up again. Do you think that paying that is economical? What do other people pay? May i add this is only a 2 bed house.

Why did you switch from oil heating to direct electric heating?
Direct electric heating is many times more expensive to run than oil.
[STRIKE]Sounds like you made a huge mistake.[/STRIKE]
Note how the huge savings quoted by Logicor were calculated using research by Logicor. So it is BS basically.0 -
I didn't decide it the housing did.
Because my oil system failed it service and the parts were no longer available, so this was put in as more affordable. Some people say £200+ for electric a month is good, but i just don't see how going to the shop on pay day and asking for £200-£250 on electric to get through the month, thats half of what i earn a month 0 -

Firstly, see where you can reduce the heating requirements, either time wise or temperature.
Electric heating is better on a credit meter / direct debit set up so you can over pay through the Summer and build a credit ready for the Winter. Also, the prices are cheaper for monthly direct debit customers.
What about your hot water? Is that on an immersion? Is it set too hot and on 24/7 or timed?0 -
Hot water is on a timer, i had a new one when this heating system was put in. I had a man from housing come out. It was set at 18 and he refused to take his coat off as was so cold. He now set it at 20-21 just to take chill off.. But now im going up from 18 to 20 what am i going to be putting on. £20 last 2 days at 18.0

Electric panel heaters are more affordable than oil, for the housing as they are cheap to buy, install and have little maintenance costs. For you they are likely to be the most expensive form of heating you can get short of burning fivers in a fire. Try and get the housing to look at the situation again (unlikely though).
Is your house well insulated, if not see if you can get that looked at, it would make a big difference0 -

Is the heating on 24 hours a day?
That's a ridiculous amount of power given how mild it is currently!
My house is currently all electric as the boiler broke (again!) and I used about £4 yesterday! I heat the living room to 21C and the bedrooms to 18C.0 -

Out of interest how much did you pay for the electric heaters and the installation?
You could of had a new oil bboiler, or a biomass boiler and claim RHI as well to cover the capital costs"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
We expect you to save at least 50% on your energy bills and in some case up to 85% or more. Go arty infra-red glass panel Paul Daniels half kilowatt energy saving """looks very smart""" heating system and you are still left with a half or one kW infrared panel heater that will need to be on at least every minute you are in the living area to maintain comfort. This type of heating starts with understanding two (2) things :
(1) That it heats material such as your chair, your curtains, coffee table and yourself. It does not heat 'air volume' so the very second you turn it off the whole room including your chair, your curtains, coffee table and yourself is instantly cold.
(2) That the building its installed in needs to have an EPC of A or at least B to even begin to have sufficient heat-loss via thermal bridging and air tightness to even begin to function economically. Insulation + more insulation is the starting point.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Yes ive had all new installation, it did not cost me a penny as its a housing association property, there choice to remove oil with this. Which i was told would cost around £5 a week, not day!
I am just after advice really thats is £120 for November good to heat a 2 bed house. With a top of the range system?
The engineer did just call as 4 of them keep de-linking themself from the computer controlling them, and he thinks there is a problem with the electricity to them!
So could that be why is costs so much to run?0 -

They have thought only of their costs and not yours. You should complain but I doubt you will get anywhere. Tell them they will have to move you as they have put you in a position where you can no longer afford the bills.0
