TV Licence cancellation

Hi, I pay for my licence via DD. I've decided the tv has to go but I'm doing it in stages, mainly because I have tv, phone and bb with sky. I've cancelled my DD for the licence but I think I pay 6 months ahead. As my licence doesn't run out till end April 2015 I'm wondering if I can claim any money back?
From what I've read they only refund in quarters, is this right? So if I keep my tv till the new year how much of a refund should I get back and when should I request it?
Thanks for your help

What makes you think you can cancel your TV licence when you still have Sky TV?
I'm also not sure why you think any refund would be payable?0 -
I'll be getting rid of sky in the new year. I thought that as I pay my tv license by DD I paid 6months ahead. Is this not correct? I distinctly remember when first paying my DD it was double for the first 6 months.
If correct then if I don't pay any more DD (paid Nov 1st, cancelled from now on) then I'm covered until at least the date on my license which is end April 2015.
But, if I get rid of live TV from the new year then I should be due a refund of my license for feb, march and april. Or am I not interpreting things correctly?
Thanks

So how will you watch TV etc after your current licence expires ??

If you also dispense with any TV receiving equipment at that time then you might be able to apply for a partial refund. You certainly can't request a refund while you are still a Sky TV subscriber.Knackeredoldbat wrote: »I'll be getting rid of sky in the new year.0 -
Thanks for the link, I'll check whether my understanding is correct.
I won't be watching live tv once sky goes. I'll get a freesat box that has wifi and will watch catch up, netflix, dvd's. We don't watch enough live tv to warrant the cost of sky and the license.
Thanks again0 -
I think you'll struggle to get any refund with that set-up in place. In addition, I think you'll also be harassed by TV licensing enforcement.Knackeredoldbat wrote: »I won't be watching live tv once sky goes. Why? If I'm not watching live tv I don't see the problem. Why would I be 'harassed' for my planned set up? Seems sensible to me.
At the moment I pay £50pm to sky for basic tv, phone and unlimited broadband. By ditching the tv and switching to catch up etc I can save over £40pm. Plus, with the box we don't all have to huddle round a moniter. I'm hoping to get a good deal on a box in the sales.
Have I missed something?

I'll leave you to it.
This is just yet another TV licence thread which will just go around in circles like all the others have done..0 -
Because the freesat box will be capable of receiving live satellite signals - so will need to find a way to not have it tuned in - since essentially the remote control could just be used to watch tv - and so render your declaration of not watching live tv as being wrong - since you would be capable of watching the tv...
You would need some kind of device - say games console - which has the catchup tv \ Netflix facilities - but that wouldn't show live tv..Knackeredoldbat wrote: »Why? If I'm not watching live tv I don't see the problem. Why would I be 'harassed' for my planned set up? Seems sensible to me.

Being "capable of" is not the same as "watching"
If I watch live TV on my computer via iplayer for example I need a licence. If I only watch catch up TV using the iplayer I don't require one, despite the fact that I have the capability so to do.0
