virgin media - slow broadband connection

However, even those whom dont download are being "capped" from 4pm to midnight, VM claim it to be a traffic light system they are using, although I have heard many excuses by VM, it basiclly boils down to peak BB reduction.
VM just do this in order to make some extra cash via the premium number they insist you call, and for those whom dont realise they are capped.
I had this problem for 8 weeks, in the end they admitted there was a problem with the 20meg, which was still being repaired, if you cannot set the proxy settings manually (as that worked for me), dropping your BB to the 4meg, which isnt affected, at least until they fix this mess, bizzarrely makes it work faster for you.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Before VM took over, I never ever had any slow browsing issues with Telewest Blueyonder. I'm sick of this slow browsing now, have complained to them, and will probably have to look elsewhere for a good connection speed I suppose.
This site seems very slow to load pages though. Even at work, which is a good fast conncetion speed.

I had the same prob with my 20meg, cost me a fortune in phone calls, had 2 engineers come around, both stated it was a fault at VM end, lasted me 8 weeks, I found a solution on the broadband forum, to change my proxy manually, so for that has done the trick, ive had no problems since.
Open Control Panel Internet Options (or, in IE, pull down menu Tools and select Internet Options...).
Click on the tab Connections.
Click on button LAN Settings.
UNcheck Automatically detect settings.
UNcheck Use automatic configuration script.
Check Use a proxy server but ensure that the boxes are left blank.
Click on button Advanced:
In the row HTTP fill in the name and port number (8080) of your chosen web proxy server (see belfast's below). It is essential that you do not select port 80, even if your chosen server offers a proxy service on that port.
Ensure that the other rows are left blank.
UNcheck Use the same proxy server for all protocols.
In the Exceptions box enter: 192.168.*
Click OK.
Click OK to exit LAN settings.
Click OK to apply the changes and exit Internet Options
