Hello,
Going to the US soon for a long vacation. Interested in getting a pay as you go sim that works over their. Wandering if anybody knows where best to get it. Planning on making a few calls with in the US, a few calls to the UK, & a few texts to the UK. Oneroam jolt sim as recommended on this site seems ok, but im wandering if anybody knows if theirs a payg sim i could get over there that would be cheaper??
Thanks

i currently use a T-Mobile to go sim card... its cheap for texting, and calling within the USA, and texting back to the UK..
the AT&T Go Phone PAYG looks to be the cheapest for calls back to the UK though, so even i'm thinking of changing
i'd recommend buying your sim before you go on ebay, so you have it ready and waiting for when you land, this way, you'll be less likley to use your british phone..
make sure you have a MINIMUM of a tri band phone, as US Networks work on 1900mhz.....0 -
Thanks Markymoo....i had a US t-mobile to go sim on a previous trip, i was given it by friends out their and although i knew it wasent the most expensive, i thought maybe their would be cheaper. Do you think it is cheaper than one roam??0

i'm not 100% if the t-mob deal is cheaper, if someone calls you on that number, then yes it is... you pay for incoming at 10¢ a min, even if it is an international incoming call!!
the beauty about it is though you know how much you've spent, and you ain't gonna get a scary bill when you get back in the UK!0 -
Hi
Take your uk mobile with you and use it for receiving texts.
And go to Walmart you can get a cheap mobile on Cingualr Wireless not AT&T for $20 with $10 of credit on it and use that to text UK.
Thats what I did on a long trip to the USA.0 -
hi
we were there for 8 weeks and used this sim card our total for the time was $59/£25 not bad !

Hi,
Thanks for all the info. Paulinespens...i dont fancy having two phones to take about with me. Susan1, the site you recommended is on the jolt network, and the site recommended here (oneroam jolt) is basically the same sim except 0044.co.uk is a little more expensive to buy the sim.
I think its between oneroam jolt http://www.oneroam.co.uk/sim-cards.aspx?igs=1&m=14&mi=95
or a tmobile payg bought over there http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/default.aspx?plancategory=4
...ill just need to compare rates. Its tough because i do expect to make a recieve a few calls from the local city(San Diego) that ill be staying in.
....so who would you go for??0 -
you can pick up t-mob usa sims on ebay.com for cheap, with $10 preloaded... just speak to one of the sellers to get them to ship to the UK, they normally will.. --

thanks for that information - i hadn't seen that. :T have to say i would go for oneroam. it was easy to top up, customer services when you needed them were excellent and the coverage and the cinnections were very good. we were in the heart of the everglades surrounded by large trees etc and talking to the u.k. was like being in the next room:j0 -
I bought a TMobile phone in Walmart for $19.99 that included $10 topup for its sim. The sim would expire if not topped up again within 30 days so I put $100 dollars on it which dont expire for 12 months so next time I am in the states I will put $10 on it to keep it rolling forward.
The phone wasnt bad a Nokia with psu hands free and FM radio.Only down side is it is USA only spec.0 -
Can't say that I was impressed with oneroam whatsoever. My daughter was unable to send or receive texts (in the US) even after numerous phone calls to Jolt and we were also unable to top up online and the customer services was always busy. Would not recommend I'm afraid0
