I can handle a Rift thanks, being a professional games programmer with over 18 years' experience ;-)
The latest Rift SDK released in October has improved things immensely for me. Most "direct to rift" programs now 'just work' so no more fiddling with forcing either dx9/11, minimising Chrome or other tweaks to get rid of the judder.
I was just referring to the fact most end punters (the mainstream, not hardcore gamers) probably want ease of use and simplicity, which is why consoles are more popular in the first place.0 -
And yet you had never heard of wireless controllers having native support on PC, and never heard of Steam's Big Picture Mode.
But why would you listen to me? I'm just a simple Belgian prince who helped Al Gore create the Internet.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

Both my husband and I are PC gamers, he has his rig connected to his monitor AND our family TV. It means he can just switch his monitor off, grab his wireless Xbox controller (for PC) and lounge either on the sofa or in his Xrocker and play any game he wants (doesn't even have to be from Steam
).
PC gaming offers a far better experience (in our opinions) than consoles, we haven't had the newest 2 (3 if you include WiiU) as we cannot justify the cost when most of the games are available on PC and they look a hell of a lot better.
If you are a newbie and are set on having a console then both the PS3 and XBox360 are your better choices, a huge library of games and the costs are cheaper. I see no reason to stump up the money for the PS4 or XBone just yet.0 -
I'm by no means a big gamer but thought I'd offer my humble opinion on this.
Way back I was a PS man, PS1 got traded in for a PS2 which I then loved. I decided to try the whole XBox malarky (Xbox 360) and did enjoy that...however I finally decided to get a PS3 Slim when it came out. The main thing that drew me to it was the blu-ray capability. No, it's not the BEST blu-ray player out there but as a multi-functional unit, it's very good.
I was hoping to wait and see how the PS4 and XB1 settled in and which games were available before making my next purchase but my PS3 packed in (overheating due to my lack of care for the fan slots) so I made my choice and went for the PS4. I don't regret it at all! Granted I haven't played an XB1 so I can't make a direct comparison but the PS4 controller is a massive improvement on the PS3 one. I've always thought they were more comfortable than the XB controls and they really have improved the comfort.
Personally, in your situation, I would try to have a game on both if you can (places like HMV etc. will have "taster" booths if you don't have a mate with one) but having played the PS4 I would thoroughly recommend. Depending on what games you like, FIFA15 is superb and The Last Of Us Remastered is incredible.0 -
I have had a gaming PC a playstation and xbox360, personally gameplay I prefer the xbox.
But both give some additional benefits.
Playstation has an integrated blueray the xbox has xbox media player.
Personally I didn't see the benefit of blueray, and the pick up and play nature of the system I chose the xbox0 -

Course I've heard of them you idiot!
I was replying in the context of the OP, ie which console is best.
Oh, and btw stupid remarks about my gaming background (or lack of as you seem to believe) aren't appreciated.
!!!!.
Obviously I'm dealing with a troll..0 -
Err... you clearly said:The problem with PC gaming is you can't just loaf on the sofa in the lounge with a wireless controller [simply not true, but you apparently did not know about PCs supporting HDMI and wireless controllers natively] - you have to be sat at a PC [simply not true for the same reasons] (tho there are probably [i.e. I'm not sure/don't know] convoluted ways to get a similar experience, though I bet [i.e. I'm not sure/don't know] not as easy as just using a console).Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

That's PC gamers for you!
Why can't they (PC gamers) just accept that not everyone wants to game on a PC. They are always pushing it in peoples faces!0 -
Your post positioning makes it look like it's having a go at me, Gordon Hose! Which is ludicrous, of course! :rotfl: (I recommended the PS3 to the OP as slightly edging it over a 360, as you know!)Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

I'm siding with you, mate!
I also recommended the PS3.0
