Feedback extortion ??

Hi, a couple of weeks ago I sold an item on ebay. I was unable to post it till a couple of days after payment and I messaged buyer to apologise for delay, the buyer did not respond and the tracking shows item was delivered next day (so 3 days after payment recieved !!

However today the buyer is demanding a partial refund for their apparent inconvenience over the delay and have said they are awaiting my reply before leaving feedback !!

Does anyone else think this is feedback extortion as I'm worried that unless I issye a partial refund which in my opinion highly unfair, they're gonna neg me.
Thanks

yes defintely sounds like feedback extortion to me
  • Tell them, if they are not happy with your goods and service you're very sorry, if they would like to return the goods to you, on receipt of goods you will issue them with a full refund. You don't do partial refunds.

This kind of person is likely to leave you negative feedback no matter what, so the best out come is to ensure you are out of pocket as little as possible.

If they really want the item, they will keep it and have to suck up the fact they are not getting a partial refund.
If they don't want the item for the price they bid/paid they can send it back. And you can send them a full refund and chalk it down to experience.

Keep messages polite and professional. Don't budge from your position, you're not a charity and just console yourself with the fact they must be one immoral, rotten person on the inside and they have to deal with that... not you.

Also block them from bidding on any more of your items asap.

Good luck!! And try to remember most 3bayers are honest, it's just the odd git that tries to spoil the reputation of the rest.

  • Many thanks for the replies I thought so but just wanted someone else's opinion :-)
Some people will try anything really.
  • Depends on what exactly they said
    Our opinion doesn't count.
Call Ebay customer services. Their opinion is what counts and I think they can stop the customer from leaving FB or at any rate delete it if neg and in their opinion its unjustified.

When listing, what did you set your dispatch time as, and did you post within that time?

Good luck if you speak to eBay CS about feedback extortion.
I had a message from a buyer which stated "Reply within 10 minutes or I will leave a negative" - I didn't as I was out at work and didn't even see the message until I got home.

Got the negative, phoned eBay to report the extortion attempt and see if they could remove it and they said there was no sign of feedback extortion despite the message being in eBay messages which they can see; the buyer may not have meant it and actually why didn't I reply within the 10 minutes? Followed by a lecture on customer service.
  • Argh the buyer is still going I sent a polite messages stating that I don't offer partial refunds and if there was problem with item to return and I will happily refund in full. However they are still demanding a partial refund and have apparently been on to ebay who have told them to communicate with me !!
I'm starting to get really really peed off now as they are really taking the Micky
Any suggestions what to say please.
  • Did you post within your dispatch time?
Did it arrive within the estimated time?
Is it an item that could cause inconvenience if late?
  • Hi Yes it was posted and Recieved within time frame and it would in no way cause any inconvenience if it was late.
I guess some people are just never happy
  • Well after more increasingly abusive messages from the buyer This morning I went onto ebay live chat and due to wording of the messages it does indeed breech feedback extortion policies and I will be able to get negative feedback removed if buyer leaves it.
Buyer is also reported to ebay and now blocked
Thankyou for all advice I'm glad I stuck to my guns.
