They had a BBC Essex team down at the crossing on the first working day of the new system. They asked the operations manager about how reliable the Dart Charge system was and his response was "we expect to loose £10m+ in revenues each year due to unreadable number plates, foriegn number plates and vehicles simply tail-gating the vehicle in front so the ANPR can't read the number plate".

I find this quite extraordinary. Switch from a stop & pay system to a free-flow system to save money, then realize that it fact, it will loose them a huge amount of their revenue.

But its a lisence to print money anyway

I like the bridge now, just the return journey is no where near as good. Hope they sort it soon.

The reason we need to keep the barriers at this stage is to stop over-sized or non-compliant vehicles from using the tunnel.

The gantry will stop that without the barriers having to up and down for every vehicle, especially in the car/van only lanes.

My first tags are around 6 years old- my son had one as recently as last year, all that was required was a top up. It is possible that someone getting a refund was merely getting back the balance in their Dart Tag account.

I have been searching Google for a while trying to establish whether I can get money back for returning my tag, I too recall paying a deposit (about a fiver I think) and being told that I would get it back if I closed my account.

Has anyone returned their tag and got money back who still use the crossing via the ANPR system please?
