Dart Tag migration to Dart Charge
For people who currently have a Dart Tag the emails are coming out about migrating to the new system and it warns you need to do so by the 30th November.
You also need a unique tag for every car your register, so if you currently share a tag between cars allow extra time to order more tags.
I have registered my cars on the new system now, but the payment system seems to be down- but the help line is answered very quickly so I managed to get it sorted.
I pity anyone in the habit of taking long holidays at this time of year, the procedure to migrate to the new system came out very late- we only have 2 and a bit weeks to get it set up.

I registered for the new Dart Charge account and I've got three cars registered on the one account.0

So I need to order another tag - which I won't need in the next couple of weeks - just so I can register two cars on their system? Sounds daft.
I've been putting off contacting them until they finally make up their minds when the system is going live and what the switching process is.
I have two cars and one tag, and swap it back and forth as required. I have never given them the registration number of either car, and I couldn't find anything in the T&Cs that restricted a tag to one car.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

We've always had one tag per car, but also a spare tag that we've used for rental cars or for when we have been in friends cars and splitting petrol costs. The email I received didn't seem overly clear, but it did warn that under the new scheme it is one tag per car and tags can't be shared.
It appears though that it is the registration of the car that is important but there seems to be no limit on how many can be registered per account, as long as they all have their own tags. I've registered 5 cars and as mentioned previously have actually got 6 tags.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No, the new system doesn't use tags, it used ANPR, you just register as many cars as you want to on your account and either pay by debit card or direct debit.
It's going to work exactly the same as the London congestion charge, the camera takes a photo of your number plate and bills your account or if you don't have one you have to go online and pay within 24 hours.
Soolin, who told you you would be getting tags? That is incorrect.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

That's what I was getting confused about, I assumed tags would be redundant but the email is quite clear .
I've registered now and set up an automatic top up, so will just wait and see how it works. Hopefully it will speed up the crossing as at the moment it is just one big traffic jam.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It's on the email I got from Dart tag with my PIN number for migration, when I go back to my PC i'll cut and paste it. I says the system uses both ANPR and tag readings and warns that tags can no longer be shared between cars.

That's very peculiar, it said nothing about that on my email or when I set the account up.
Do you have the residents tag? I don't.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

No mine is not a residents account.
My email said (near the end under T and cs)
Key changes to your terms and conditions
You currently have an account called DART-Tag, but from 30th November 2014 this will be changed to Dart Charge. Your contract will continue to be with the Secretary of State for Transport but the Dart Charge scheme and your account will be operated and managed by Sanef Operations Limited. The terms and conditions of your account will change with effect from 30th November 2014.
Currently you may share a tag between vehicles. We will continue to use tags to identify vehicles but once Dart Charge commences, your tag must be fitted in only one vehicle and must not be moved between vehicles. We will always read your vehicle registration, whether you have a tag fitted or not. We can supply extra tags if you make more than ten crossings a month.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How strange, mine didn't say that, I got it about 10 days ago, don't know if that makes a difference.
If we all NEED tags it's going to make it overly complicated, we have people at different addresses registered. From this bit it's not entirely clear whether you actually need tags too, it's a bit vague:We will always read your vehicle registration, whether you have a tag fitted or not.We can supply extra tags if you make more than ten crossings a month.
Maybe we only NEED tags if we make more than 10 crossings a month? And is that collectively or individually?
I'm going to call them today, this just seems to be making a simple system more complicated than it needs to be.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Ok, just spoken to them.
We don't NEED tags, if you choose to have tags the crossing will come out of your account immediately, if you don't have a tag the ANPR will take a couple of days for the crossing to come out of your account.
That makes more sense. Why they couldn't put that anywhere I don't know.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Thank you for phoning them- I was horribly confused by it all.
