  • I have no idea why you think I need to search the web, I worked for Mirror Group Newspapers/Trinity Mirror for 15 years, there is not a lot I don't know about Maxwell, Murdoch et all.
So I wouldn't worry too much about my pension pot :rotfl: Maxwell has looked after that.

Personally it hasn't and wouldn't stop me buying Sky.

But the facts are people hate Murdoch for numerous reasons (If you were unaware of that you can search the web) and they are right to do so, and if they see a connection with Sky they are not going to be buying in.

Interesting as a few months ago you had spent 20+ years installing tv systems can I ask when did you start to work for Virgin or do you always spout rubbish ?

As an ex journalist I would assume you were trained to check fact not invent or were you like so many ex members of the press only interested in inventing and giving your opinion ?

    Thats really strange.

    1. I never said I was a journalist, I stated I worked for MGN then Trinity Mirror for 15 years.

    2. As poster on a web forum yes I am stating opinion.

Not much else I can say to your post as other than just a random rant you haven't actually said anything.

Richard Branson sold Virgin media in 2014 all he does now is rent the name and appear in adds
    Rubbish!

Richard Branson never owned Virgin Media in the first place.

No outright, no. I am sure he (or his company) has shares in it. He is also happy to lend his name & 'good standing' to them for massive financial reward...

Either way Sky & Virgin Media (as companies) aren't too dis-similar anyway you look at it. All they want is your money.

He was an owner in Virgin media, made >£200m from the sale, now earns >£10m per year for name licensing, all while still owning 15%.

Not bad, not bad at all.
  • He was an owner in Virgin media,
    No.
He sold a long lease on the Virgin name to Telewest and NTL when they combined into one company. Part of the deal was for him to make public appearances on behalf of the merged firm and he also received a large number of shares in the "new" company.

He never at any time owned Virgin Media, however.
Liberty Global owns Virgin Media, but Branson sold his shares some time before that acquisition.

Ntl and telewest merged to form NTL : Telewest, It was then Virgin Mobile and NTL : Telewest that merged to form VM.

I never said he owned VM, I said he was an owner.

I have NO idea why you think Richard Branson sold his shares pre-liberty takeover, at the point of sale he had 6.6m shares in VM.

    Are you just intentionally trolling?
  • Ntl and telewest merged to form NTL : Telewest, It was then Virgin Mobile and NTL : Telewest that merged to form VM.
As I already said, the merged NTL and Telewest cable companies became Virgin media after purchasing a long lease on the Virgin name.
I never said he owned VM, I said he was an owner.
The original poster said he sold Virgin Media. Since he never owned it in the first place, he could hardly sell it.

As for "trolling", I'll leave that to others..

Yes you have already said it, but sadly it is wrong, repeatedly saying it and trying to correct me doesn't make it right.

As they merged and RB owned >%70 of Virgin Mobile he clearly became an owner in the new company, Virgin Media, in fact he was the biggest single share holder in Virgin Media.

Richard Branson did not sell his shares pre-liberty takeover, at the point of sale he had 6.6m shares in VM, >10% and agreed to the sale.
