I'm not sure what maternity leave has to do with the price. If all of us with kids get a couple of years at half price, that only puts up the price for everybody else. Hardly fair - Sky TV isn't exactly a necessity.

...A few years ago I would have agreed with you whole heartedly...but the world has moved on and people will now haggle on almost anything -why not join them and get the best deal you can? If that means leveraging your short term situation then so be it.
Our financial circumstances have changed for the worse in the past two years -so I have no compunction in "negotiating" for everything I can now -If only we could negotiate with the Council -now by some distance our major expense:rotfl:

Cancel* on the basis that you can't afford Sky.
This is really the ONLY reason the OP should be considering cancellation.

I don't have Sky for several reasons:

    1. No way am I giving any of my money to that disgusting man Rupert Murdoch

    2. I'm not that interested in what they offer, it just seems to be a load of American stuff.

    3. Much better things to spend money on!

So a few reasons to cancel or not have sky.

My point was that the OP should not cancel solely on the basis of a tactless remark made by a call centre operator.

Your "reasons for cancelling" just sound like reasons you personally do not to have Sky in the first place! Around eleven million people disagree.

Sadly lots of people have been personally affected by Murdochs news empire and wont have anything to do with him.

Say what you like about Richard Bransons jumpers and beard he doesn't carry the same level of hate in certain sections of the UK, and rightly so.

Rupert Murdoch is an excellent business man. He is hated by many because he gives the people what they want - the smut of the Sun, NotW etc. If you wish to 'hate' anyone over the success of his newspapers et. al. you need to blame the people who buy them, and they people who have spent millions advertising in them (such as Mr. Brandson!)

I think people don't fully understand Rupert Murdoch's role in BSkyB, or NewsCorp which owns the majority share in the company. I'll let you search the web to find out...

What I would say is that other 'owners' of bSkyb include Tesco and the Church of England! Probably you too in the form of your pension fund.

I have no idea why you think I need to search the web, I worked for Mirror Group Newspapers/Trinity Mirror for 15 years, there is not a lot I don't know about Maxwell, Murdoch et all.
So I wouldn't worry too much about my pension pot :rotfl: Maxwell has looked after that.

Personally it hasn't and wouldn't stop me buying Sky.

But the facts are people hate Murdoch for numerous reasons (If you were unaware of that you can search the web) and they are right to do so, and if they see a connection with Sky they are not going to be buying in.

Far play - I made my point pretty poorly. What I was trying to say was that Rupert Murdoch has little more control over the running of BSkyB than Tesco & the Church of England. Add in the fact that Rupert Murdoch only has the wealth and power he has because of the Great British public's eagerness to read the smut in his newspapers accompanied by sensationalised stories of sex offenders accompanied by just-turned topless 18 year-old's dressed as school girls!

Absolutley, and those people and many others lap up Sky.

There are others though that hate him and all he stands for, and will swerve any company he is connected with.
  • So by that logic you would have nothing to do with Virgin Media or BT as they RENT from sky oh and just a wee point Richard Branson sold Virgin media in 2014 all he does now is rent the name and appear in adds
