The only (very minor) issue I've had so far is that payments to new payees can take around 24 - 48 hours to process (due to security check I think). But really not a big deal for me.

That problem is certainly not isolated to Santander these days.

But if you are paying in your cheques at the Post Office then it's customer service from the Post Office that's the problem and not Santander's own customer service, is it not?

You haven't done this have you; the slips and envelopes come from Santander.

  • Santander123 Current Account - Absolutely no issues with a great perks :) Can thoroughly recommend...
  • Singing from the same hymn sheet as everyone else. Had an issue right at the start when a direct debit didn't transfer over so had to pay £12 to make payment on the phone to the company on the day but they refunded the £12 payment fee and also an additional £15 for the three phone calls I had to make to them and the company due the payment.

If you manage your account 100% correctly then I see no reason why you should have an issue

I have been trying to apply for this account, but after clicking apply i have the triangle in the browser address bar and no padlock, it says this page is not fully secure.
The second page as well where it needs all your personal details, so i leave the page.
I have disabled all add ons in the browser.

Any chance someone will try to apply to see if you get the full padlock in the browser address bar?

I have two of these accounts and recommend them, no problems and lots of perks.
I post my cheques to Santander with no problems.. it costs me a stamp but saves me queuing up at the PO..

  • Switched over to this account around 9 months ago now. Have had no issues, the one time I contacted customer services about something I had a quick, friendly & helpful response. Plus the cashback we're earning every month on our bills is a nice little bonus. I would definitely recommend them.

As for Santander in general, I know they don't rank very well in customer service polls but we've had mortgages with them for over 10 years and have never had a problem with them. They've always been helpful when we've contacted them for any reason & we've always been satisfied with the results if we've ever had any queries or issues.

It may be that the Google reviews are out of date; Santander used to have a bad reputation at one time, it seems, and some people seem to leave it and then carry on slagging it off even though it's really very good now.

I find nothing to dislike. Good interest, good cashback, reasonable monthly charge and prompt secure messages when you need them. And I've had very friendly, useful help when I've used the branch for a query in the past.
  • It's a great account - plenty of perks and one of a few banks that do 100k faster payments, if you need to transfer large amounts.

I can't fault them, other than on really minor issues like not being able to get paperless statements for the 123 credit card, and a slightly clunky look-and-feel to the internet banking (much prefer the Lloyds/TSB/BoS look). But then Santander text you a code for setting up standing orders etc, whereas you have to sit through a really slow 3 minute phone call before entering a code with the others I mentioned to achieve the same thing.

We have 3x 123 accounts (2 sole, 1 joint), 2x 2year fixed-rate cash ISAs, the 123 credit card, and a mortgage with them. They must be doing something right :D
