Thanks, Di. It’s just crazy how they can act like this without retribution.0

They’ve written to me today saying they’re looking into my query, and have put my account on hold.
If they have a genuine debt that I owe, why not just send me the proof?
They buy old debts, in bulk, one of which may or may not be yours, they go through the process of first contact hoping you’ll just pay up, the only information they may have is a name, address, and a balance owed, that’s usually it, obviously no one pays a debt they do not recognise.
They do not hold proof of liability, no debt collector does, that is always retained by the original creditor, they must go back to them for the proof, if it exists.
This is how the world of debt collection works, they only need provide proof, when the customer asks for it, which is what you are now waiting for, the OC will be trawling through their old files to find evidence of your liability.
This could go one of two ways, they may find nothing with your details, in which case all well and good, end of story, or you may find your name has been mixed up, or the address, or something else, is incorrect, it may not be yours after all, you won’t know until they get back to you.
