    As far as I understand it, a legal ESTATE (ownership) is a freehold or a leasehold 7yrs plus. Anything else (eg a mortgage, short lease) is just an INTEREST in someone else's land.


    Now, do please correct me if I'm wrong. Don't just quote entire ACTS of PARLIAMENT or post links to someone's CV!

    Perhaps you need to dig a bit deeper if you wish to know who the actual legal owner of the land is ;)

    Freehold is in itself a clue :)
