on booking airline tickets in a particular name?
It seems a lot of problems are caused by people giving the wrong name when booking a flight and they are then charged for the airline changing the name on the ticket.
Also, if you buy a ticket you then can't use, you can't just sell it on, the name has to be changed.
Why do we have to buy tickets in particular names? When I buy a train ticket or a bus ticket I can easily sell/give it to someone else if I can't use it, why not the same with airline tickets?
Your identity is checked at the airport anyway, so it can't be for security reasons.

Simple.
If names were not needed, then people would buy multiple 1p/ £10 tickets and sell them on at a profit.
Also, security checks are done on people before arriving at the airport. Ever heard of terrorism?Gone ... or have I?0 -
But we have always had to supply names when buying airline tickets haven't we?
Long before budget airlines or cheap deals of any kind. If this is the reason, why is there no rule that other tickets have to have names on to prevent ticket touting, such as concert or football tickets.
Long before terrorism too.
Do you get off on being patronising?0 -
When people ask silly questions ...
Terrorism has existed for many years, it is just that people are more aware of it nowadays. Ticket lists have been checked for YEARS.
Ticket touting is now being addressed in other industries, such as concerts and sporting events. At Glastonbury, names and photo's were required this year. Names have been required on tickets for international football tournaments for many years now.
Think about it another way, why should we not provide names?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Why is it then, if I buy a train ticket to Edinburgh my name isn't on the ticket, but if I buy an airline ticket it is?0

Perhaps the same reason you NEED photo ID to fly, but NO ID to travel by Train !!0

Surely people can remember their own name when making a booking!
Well, maybe not by the amount of posts moaning about the cost of changing a name on a ticket.0
