Ipad 2 advice appreciated please...

Options
Hi all, hoping that this will not turn into a long post so please forgive me if you lose the will to live halfway down ;)

Have come to the conclusion that we would like to get my twins an Ipad 2 each for Christmas, like they have in school. Will virtually blow the entire budget so looking to find two used ones in decent condition for around the £180 each mark.

My daughter wants to use the Videostar app on the Ipad, along with the usual iplayer, Youtube, etc. so I was wondering if this Videostar app will run on all Ipad 2's? Does it need a specific version of iOS to work? Are they all upgradable to anything above 10.5? If so, how would I do it?

Is there any significant advantage (except for the obvious storage space) to getting a 32GB version over the 16GB version?

Sorry for the many questions. Will probably think of more later no doubt!

Thanks in advance for any advice

You may struggle to get something at £180 although have a look at smartfonestore to see what their stock is like.

Can't see any reason that the Videostar app won't run on ipad2

I read that some ipad2s had issues with OS8 and that some people suggested not upgrading.

"Are they all upgradable to anything above 10.5?" - what is the 10.5 you mention?

    Thanks wiogs

Ebay completed listings have some that ended around the £180-£200 mark so was thinking I might get one in that range from there. Will also look at your suggested site :)

I'm thick when it come to iOS (totally Windows and Android at ours presently) so thought I'd seen that the OS versions go up in 10.x.x increments. I'm probably wrong though :o

    Thanks for the pointers

“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”
  • I am not an IPAD person but I am sure John Lewis was selling new IPAD 2's for £199 a couple of weeks ago.....

OSX (for Mac) goes 10.1, 10.2... and is now at the rather bizarre 10.10.

iOS goes 1, 2, 3 and is currently at 8.1 with 8.1.1 due any time.

I presume that Ipad 2's can be updated to at least IOS 6 then?

Ipad2s will run iOS7 completely and iOS8 partially, which just means you won't get the full functionality that iOS8 offers later models.

This is what you should be looking for. The iPad2 is now pretty old tech not able to run the latest iOS... therefore any new and amazing apps that your twins' pals may rave about may not be compatible with their iPads. Go for the mini2 instead and although the screen will be a bit smaller they'll get hell of a lot more for your money.

One more small question (told you there would be!):

Is there any mileage in getting a 1st gen ipad mini (more my budget) as opposed to the 2nd gen with regard to iOS 8 and app compatibility going forward?

    Thanks
