He is re-doing "do they know it's christmas"
The words go something like
It's Christmas time
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time, we let in Dad and we banish mum
But in a world of plenty, we can leave your parents out, throw your arms around the Hubz at Christmas time
But say a prayer, pray for the battleaxe
At christmas time it's hard but when you want some peace
Theres your mum outside the window
Whilst the inlaw's tucking in
Where the only meal she's eating
Are the scraps left in your bin
And the Front door bells that ring there, is the ding dong sound of doom
Well tonight thank god it's yours instead of his
And there won't be your old battleaxe this Christmas
The greatest gift she'll buy is a new will kit...oh yeah
Where crisp Notes name once was
Now becomes the Dogs Trust
Do they know it's Christmas time at all."You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I used to love Xmas when I was younger, my DD was little and my Dad was alive:(Now I find it all a bit too hyped up and fake, and if it wasn't for the little Grandkids I doubt i'd get a buzz at all!
What I would hate though, is if my DD felt obliged to invite me for Xmas day!
My ideal day is going to see the kids, popping to see Mum and her Grandkids, then coming home and chilling with the dogs and mates, or even shock horror on my own! Lol!:rotfl::rotfl!
In my opinion the OP has far deeper rooted resentments to sort out, rather than focusing about one particular day"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Out of interest, what are the others?
Again, many pre-date christianity or were pinched by it. Which others were you thinking of?
When my kids were young we used to go to a friend's solstice party on the shortest day, is it the 21st? The children would all dress as children of the dark or children of the night and bang on drums, biscuit tins or whatever and gradually the children of the dark would get quieter and the light would win. They loved it. We still went to church at Christmas but were happy to celebrate both. I don't know if it would bother some Christians, seeing it as pagan but to me it was celebrating a fact. The soltice happens.Sell £1500

I think it's not so much Christians being bothered by the pagan-ness of certain festivals, - more that the "I hate God, I hate Christianity, I hate religion" types then go on to celebrate Christmas, which is fine, but they then feel the need to justify it by trying to say that Christmas is not a Christian festival :rotfl:
If Christmas (think about it... CHRISTmas) isn't Christian (at least nominally) I don't know what is..0 -

Obviously Christmas is Christian, I'm not disagreeing with that but Notanewuser was saying there isn't another name for celebrating around that time, As a Christian I am happy to celebrate soltice and don't think it is unChristian but I think some might so just thought I would mention it.Sell £1500

I'd like to celebrate the solstice. Sadly, as the 25th, we're rarely able to do anything on that date. I don't think you could celebrate the solstice on a different date!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

We did use to celebrate the solstice, years ago in my first marriage. We used orange or yellow-coloured fruits/veg etc to represent the sun. The Germans call it Winteranfang, or start of winter.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
