    You don't have to do anything if you don't want to.
    If you don't want to donate, then just walk past the box and if you don't mind donating, then put the amount you'd usually spend in an envelope. Suggested amount is irrelevant.
    If anyone was so rude as to ask at a party where their present was, then complain you hadn't spent enough, then you wouldn't be friends for very long. This donation business is no different.
    I'm guessing there's not going to be bouncers at the door turning people away if they fail to make the grade?

    I hope no bouncers no:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    I couldn't walk past the box though, will donate, did ask if I could do it online, could look into that, then can happily walk past the box knowing I have donated:)

    I too ask for charity donations in lieu of gifts but would never make it compulsory or set a minimum. Sorry but that seems wrong to me but then wedding lists with "cheap", "good friends" and "club together" sections seems wrong too. We've just received one where you can go online and put in our minimum to club together for their new sofa.

    I would do that stating it means they will get gift aid that way :)

  • I find it quite cheeky to demand a minimum.

    If it was a charity I agree with (I have quite strong opinions on vivisection, so have certain issues with some of the big research charities) then I would donate, but only to an amount I felt I could afford.

    If you have no problem with the charity of their choice, would it be possible to put your money - to the value of what you wanted/can afford - into an envelope and deposit it at the door?

    I think it is lovely when people suggest donations to charity instead of receiving gifts for themselves. How much is contributed though should be respected as being a personal choice.
    The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

    Yes you should donate to their charity.

    No they shouldn't specify a price.

    There are certain charities to which I would never donate , WWF for one.

    How is the invite worded? Places that do charity boxes for say a charity pin often say 'suggested minimum donation is.......£.'
