I just called the customer services helpline & the very nice lady added it manually.
  • Hello

I'm looking to top up oyster but the few places I have found on the Amex map state they don't take the card when I get there.

Anyone had much joy anywhere in London?

    Cheers

I suggest looking at the Amex Shop Small map
    https://maps.americanexpress.com/ukshopsmall#?cl=51.5073%2C-0.12755000000004202

in conjunction with the tfl Oyster ticket stop map, and seeing which shops are on both.....

This won't reveal, though, which shops will have grumpy owners who'll lie that they don't take Amex, what extra charge they may slap on, or claim that their machine can't process Amex

It's trial and error - though once you report a visit and whatever problem the owner had to Amex, they'll simply credit the £5, I've found

Some of the easier ones I used

i would question people who Amex have on their map that say they don't take Amex.. just use the card with contactless without showing the card to them? or insert yourself, rather than handing over? you may find that they do take Amex, they'd just rather you paid with a different card.
  • I'm sure there are a few retailers who can take Amex but simply don't want to. However I have come across several where u have tried to use contactless or inserted the card in their machine - and it simply did not work. The retailer had no idea of which type of card I was using but their systems and machines were not set up for Amex.
