Note that if you visit a listed merchant and they claim not to take Amex, Customer Services will give a £5 credit (to at least used to)

    That's a GOLD MINE!

Have just reported three establishments, using

    "Report Incorrect Information"

under the address. All I got was a pop-up that says

    "Thanks for submitting your feedback"

    No mention of £5.

In fact, how do they know who reported it?

I've done the rounds with my Amex card, having the same experiences as previous years.....

Shops claiming they don't take Amex despite being on the Shop Small site and having the logo in their window, or wanting to slap on a charge between 50p and £1 on the transaction.

Is the Amex fee charged to merchants so large that they'd refuse to even transact a purchase of £10 or more?

Does anyone know PRECISELY what the fee is... my strong suspicion is that because of the stories of massive fees repeatedly doing the rounds, it has become a huge diabolic thing....even if , in fact, it may be 1% more than Mastercard

And if merchants really really don't like Amex, then why not simply NOT sign up to it in the first place..that way everyone knows where they stand

I've advised Amex of offending merchants on every occasion in previous years, but the same merchants seem to crop up on the Shop Small site, leading me to wonder why they haven't sorted anything out with them.

By using Amex, one enters a strange twilight surreal world indeed
  • The fee varies based on the retailer. Big supermarkets will probably be charged <1%, small retailers may be charged as much as 8%+. It's all dependant on their credit, turnover etc.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

Has anyone tried "one stop stores" and not received a credit? I've tried two and they accepted Amex and are listed on the map but no credit has shown up yet and no email confirmation either.

These days that not the case. Some of the merchants complaining must be on very very old Amex deals. I've seen Card not present Amex rates as low as 1.5% for small businesses and card present transactions as low as 1.35% for small businesses. Some merchants are also on a £5 a month for a set amount of transaction instead as well.

    Contact Amex through https://www316.americanexpress.com/iFormsSecure/un/iforms.do?cuid=contactUs_en_GB&evtsrc=link&evttype=0

You can now also register non-amex cards through Amex connect https://network.americanexpress.com/connect/uk/en/default.html to see personalised offers and to soon see offers that are registered to your card.

I can't get the link to work as it comes up with an error message:

''You have left fields blank or incomplete. Please review your entry and make necessary corrections.''

Any other suggestions for contacting Amex about their offers?

Have you tried making the necessary corrections to the fields indicated and then resubmitting?

Thanks for your suggestion but I have tried about six combinations - none work. Has anyone else got the link to work?
