So what is the charge to add 4G to an account on Three?

Well if they cancel your contract and the only way to get their 4g is to sign up for a more expensive contract with less bells and whistles then it's not really free. It also seems to have coincided with the time that they are about to have a lot of 4g areas go online, that said I've found 3's 4g slower to download than their HSPA-DC

It's not coming to an end by 5th Jan. Only for people who have got the text at the moment. There are people (like me) who have not had the text yet and those that are in contract with the One Plan until at least March 2016, so please get the facts right...
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

You've still not answered the question. What is the charge for having 4G on Three? Leaving aside the totally separate issue of Three removing certain price plans (which has nothing to do with 4G).

For example, if a PAYG user has a 4G capable phone, how much does it cost to add 4G use to the sim?

Once you've answered that, consider what you said again:

I do wonder if they've breached advertising rules in that they have been promoting "4g for free"

    Do you still wonder?

I think what they will be moving everybody on to is 200 Mins AYCE Texts and AYCE Data without tethering for £15 per month.

This is considerably WORSE than the old plan ignoring the tethering!
    1800 minutes worse off!

6800 minutes including the loss of 3-3 5000 mins!!

They can essentially alter the terms of the contract/service providing they give you the ability to cancel without penalty.

  • There's some confusion here about 4GB of data that is now the maximum tetherable data limit on current plans and 4G technology to provide faster connectivity. The two are unrelated in regard to the cancellation of Three's 'one plan'

They are not 'ending' anyone's contract. They are changing the available tariffs - these are retired and replaced based on market demands. Your tariff and contract are not linked - the contract has no costs shown, it is the tariff that does. If it changes or stops, if within the minimum term, you have the right to leave - but once the minimum term is reached, if the change means it's no longer available, they put you on the one that replaces it.

Your contract will only end if you request it.

I've currently got a really good contract with Three, but it's come to an end and they no longer offer the deal.

2000 mins, 5000 texts, 5000 3 to 3 minutes and unlimited data and unlimited tethering for £15 a month.

Does Three have the right to stop renewing the contract as it's currently on a 30 days rolling contract and if so how much notice will they give?

They offered me an upgrade to less of everything for £10 more a month, is that allowed?

I am on the exact same plan but pay £30 because i took a phone and tablet deal.

I still have over 12 months left on my minimum term but i keep getting texts asking me to call 3 to find out ways to control my spend and get free 0800 numbers.

My spend is zero as i use whats included and nothing more.

Looks like the old one plan is coming to an end and 3 are trying to get everyone on a new plan.
  • I am on The One Plan until 1/7/2015 and I haven't received any text.

I rely on tethering, so looks like I will have to get a broadband once the minimum term is up. I won't need unlimited data with a broadband, as I mainly use the phone at home, so it's not so bad. I rarely make phone calls and send very few texts.
