I worked for a supermarket thirty years back and we were taught cash handling. You counted the coins into the customers hand from the smallest upwards, with the notes on top. Nowadays the receipt and loyalty card might go on top of that.
Handing over the papers & cards first only works if you always remember to let the customer put these away before attempting to hand over the coins! No-one ever does.
LIDL check-outs are usually so quick that there's barely time to throw my own goods back into the trolley before paying, never mind faffing about with cash. They get carded every time, now.
Always amazes me to see the people buying well over a hundred quids-worth of stuff in ASDA and then paying with folding money! Have they done a Post Office?

Not sure if this one has already been mentioned, but when a store decides to re-organise the fruit & veg section at random every 2/3 months. It took me 2 weeks to find the mushrooms again after they were moved to different aisle in the fruit & veg section.SPC7 ~ Member#390 ~ £432.45 declared :j

Morrisons self service tills!. I'm fine using these tills in other supermakets but in Morrisons they are just irritating. The area to bag your shopping is set back from the till and too small so you have to keep walking around the till from your basket to the bag. Why?. The automated voice is also too impatient. Bag the item instantly or you will need the assistant to clear the "fault".
Tesco till operators who ask for your clubcard while you are packing expecting you to stop packing to get the card out of your pocket and hand it to them, which is almost immediately handed back and needs to be put away, normally with your other cards, which then need to be got out again to pay. They just pointlesley slow you down!. Just wait!.0 -
8. Checkout staff who are extremely irritated when you have to put items back because you can't afford them. In case it hadn't failed to reach your notice, I don't enjoy being broke any more than you enjoy having to turn yourself to your left to place items away from the conveyer-belt. And if your really struggling to do this, you could always pay my bill for those items for me!:rotfl:
If you're ever in front of me in the queue, counting every penny and wondering which essentials to put back, please, please just turn around and ask me for a few quid. Happy to help!
Honestly, I've just read this entire thread, and it's been a real social education. I reckon that I am probably guilty of doing all of things that annoy me, never mind all the ones that annoy everyone else. For every view expressed here, there has been an equal and opposite view. I think I'm just going to have to practice a little more of that live-and-let-live.

No, no, I still can't work this one out. Do you mean that you've found a business with MUSIC THAT IS NOT TOO LOUD!!?
Amazing. You ought to recommend them for some sort of award.

When I worked in the IT department of a well known supermarket, I had a look to see how many bananas the local store was selling. I ended up wondering where all the baboons were hiding. The store sold a greater weight of bananas than anything else!
Just a pity that most of them will never be eaten... along with the bagged salads and the avocados.

This was standard practice in ancient Athens. We're just a bit backward. We ought to copy the Greeks and we could have an economy more like theirs.

Everything annoys me. I am Mrs Angry when I go shopping so I just slow down until I am less stressed.
But mostly the "shopping tourists" Yes you know who you are. The ones looking at everything not buying, getting in my way while I am trying to shop. It happens mostly in Aldi and Lidl and the demographic is usually grey haired. If you can't afford it why go looking?
The people who don't like children fullstop. You were one once too. Other peoples children are pretty annoying though.
The people who don't like children in trolleys. I would rather they were safe and not touching things where I can keep an eye on them. I have an autistic one who prefers to be in one.0 -
People who whistle or hum/sing. Can you not keep it to yourself? Just because you like whistling, doesn't mean it isn't like fingersnails down a chalkboard for others (you may not be nearly as tuneful as you think).
Sorry, I'm a misophone and the sound of whistling is like a spike in my ear. I have to wear noise-cancelling headphones when shopping to avoid it. Screaming babies don't even register with me, but I've had to ask people to stop whistling before! Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
