Another vote for people at checkouts who do nothing whilst the goods are being scanned and, once everything has been scanned and is waiting to be bagged, appear to be completely shocked to be asked for money.

First there's the rummage for the purse/wallet. Firkling for enough money, trying to get rid of change first, before realising there's not enough cash and then fishing through the cards before settling on a card.

The PIN's wrong, the card's declined and another one firkled out or the shopper has forgotten the vouchers and then, once the transaction's finally over and the next shopper should be getting their goods scanned, there's the packing of the bags which has to be completed before the cashier can continue.

    They drive me nuts.

ETA : Shopping late in the evening/at night, with the kiddies in pyjamas or shopping in your pyjamas or onesie (usually co-ordinated with Ugg knock offs).

ETA : "UNEXPECTED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA", after scanning a light item and putting in the bagging area - "DO YOU WISH TO BAG THIS ITEM" and, my favourite, "CALL FOR HELP!"
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Customers that go to supermarkets with a certain amount of money, pick up what they want, go through a till and find out their bill is £7-10 more than they have. Customer has to decide what they need and the cashier, has to avoid these off. Queues are getting longer.

If you are on a budget, use the calculator on your phone

  • When frozen foods are £2.00 for one but 2 for £3 and I would buy them but I don't have enough room in the freezer so have to pass.

People who wait until the cashier gets right to the end before looking for the handbag with the credit card/cash in and it takes forever to find it.

I'd assume it's with desserts, is this where it's located by any chance? If so I'm not surprised.

Fresh custard is found in the same chillers as cream in the few places I have noticed it - don't buy cream that much

  • 'Ripen at home' fruit.

I spot what looks like some lovely juicy plums/peaches/nectarines and buy them, only to find when I get them hope that they're hard as bricks. Where on earth can I buy some fruit that I can eat now ?

I buy them from the reduced shelf and they still take ages to ripen...

It was particullay quiet yesterday when I popped into the co-op. Only 1 till open and an old woman in front of me with a few items.

I assumed this was going to be quick, I was wrong.

Firstly the till operator decided to point out some kind of special prize draw to the old woman who got overly excited at the thought. They then chatted about that for a while.

In the meantime the till operator gives me an occasional glance and smile, while I stand there with my lunch and a look of "hurry the F up" on my face.

They then decide to have a good natter about the joys of membership, again neither of them actually putting stuff in bags or moving a long.

I've now been standing here a good 5-7 mins. Again operator glancing at me like I'm an Alien. I decide to throw my 2 items down on the belt which they seem to get the message and hurry up at that point.

Yes it's great that she was very friendly with the old woman yada yada yada... but I came in to buy my dinner not partake in a social care program. Scan her sodding shopping and send her on her way home!
  • Markets may be the answer to the 'ripen at home' fruit problem but it's not always easy or convenient to get there. Supermarkets should offer us some choice, I know they don't want to be left with loads of rotting fruit but they could try a limited selection.

It is frustrating if you're in a hurry and the cashier is spending ages chatting to the customer but I try to put myself in the position of the customer, sometimes they're old people who perhaps live alone and haven't spoken to anyone all day. That little exchange might make all the difference to their day. There but for the grace of God ......

Staff doing the home shopping thing who ditch the cart in the middle of the aisle while they fetch the next item. Especially when there is someone else stacking the shelves and the edge is already blocked. Leave the cart behind the trolley and actually let customers pass!

Staff who don't bother to add the bag reuse points.

Sainsbury's who point out that this price is cheaper than Morrisons, Tesco etc in the aisle, but now only match against Asda at the checkout!

Items on the top shelf, especially in Asda, where they're stacked higher. I'm 5ft 0.5!

That wasn't the point I was making. The point is that I park miles away from any other cars with loads of parking spaces around me but then someone parks right next to me.

I've no doubt that people who have cars that are not considered "posh" (another poster originally used this word) are just as concerned about people parking too close and risking getting dents in their car.

Ergh this. For a different reason though.

I'm disabled. I can walk however many metres it is that excludes me from getting a disabled parking badge and unlike some who seem to walk into the store using sticks as a prop, I don't lie to get the badge regardless. I can't however really get back into my car in a regular sized car parking space. Going back into the store and having to yoyo back to the car to check whether the person who made things particularly impossible by parking right on the line of the adjacent space has moved yet is not fun...

At sainsburys they have two items I've noticed advertised as 'ripe and ready' these are pears £2 for four at the moment and nectarines £3.50 (I know so expensive!) for four. These are great and do get ripe but even then you have to wait for a few days after buying. Usually after the best before date they taste best in my opinion. Would be better with more choice though.
