Thanks. The Backup in general settings is set to the gmail account (my email is googlemail but presumably is the same).
The Samsung account was last sync'd at the beginning of 2013 so re-sync'd but half the contacts are still missing. The calendar is OK.0 -

The Note came with Android as at 3 years ago, so not 4.1.2. Presumably factory reset will go way back in time? :-(0 -
android is a type of operating system , the note came with android version 4.1.2 , if yours had an earlier version , then connecting to Samsung kies will update it FOR FREE
I have tried to help , but now scratching my brains , I think trying to suggest programmes to run on your computer and save your settings are possibly beyond you, take it to CPW and book it in for a full reinstall0 -

OK thanks, forgot about Kies as my phone prompted to install Android updates automatically without it - I seem to recall people saying it was a bit buggy when I looked at it years ago though.
But seems like that's what I should have used before deleting the Google account yesterday :-(0 -
if your phone needs an operating update this can be done slowly over 3g/wifi by creating/signing into a Samsung account see, settings/about device/software updates , or more quickly by USB and the kies programme0

OK, so Kies says it has backed up the Galaxy Note calendar - I have no way of knowing if that is actually true, but let's believe it for the moment.
Now, if I sync the Note with Outlook will it transfer My Calendar to PC or is it the other way round?
Thanks!0 -
in the time for you to get this far , it might have been quicker to write your calendar notes down on paper0

With multiple accounts and internal storage, it's actually not transparent at all where contacts/calendars are stored on the phone, and, as I discovered to my cost in this thread, not clear whether they are adequately backed up.
Googling shows that Kies can wipe out Calendar entries under some circumstances so was hoping someone here knew how to avoid that - i.e. is there any danger of Outlook overwriting the internal phone Calendar and should the entries be in a particular account instead?
Otherwise, there might be a way to export the Calendar directly?
Cheers0 -
Use the backup feature in the phone and erase all content0
