It may well do if the leak is drawing in fresh air.0 -

Depending on where leak is in relation to o2 sensor and cat.
As it passed the emissions test the leak can't be affecting it much.0 -
My down pipe has been wleded up many times because if this.
Utter pain in the !!! to replace.0 -
No advice is good advice unless you tell us whether it is a petrol or a diesel.
I am suspecting it is a diesel?0 -

I am suspecting it is a diesel?
Why would that matter?harveybobbles wrote: »My down pipe has been wleded up many times because if this.

Are petrol exhausts different to weld from diesels?0 -

Petrol & diesel cars do not share the same exhaust systems - If you click on the link that joe horner provided you can see just how many different type of systems there are. add in that petrol and diesels have a totally different way of testing the emissions and there is your answer to why people shouldn't be throwing advice out there before knowing if it is a petrol or diesel.
And yes both systems can be welded, but it does depend on a few factors, of which the op is unlikely to know.0 -

So harveybobbles advice may not have been useless?0 -
It's a metal tube directing gases to the rear, if it can or cannot be welded is down to where and how it's leaking, not whether it's petrol or diesel.0

My car is diesel (not through choice)
Down pipe has been welded that many times that the car is lower at the front by about 10mm now0
