Mot failure - Downpipe exhaust major gas leak

Hi all,
My car failed it's Mot. They state that the downpipe exhaust gas a major leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2). I'm just wondering if any else had this problem with their car or any mechanics know how much roughly it would cost to fix?
I have a 53 reg Peugeot 307 if this helps?
Kind regards

Prices will vary from garage to garage but you're probably looking at around the ~£200 mark for parts and labour.
The part itself shouldn't be more than £100.0 -
Depends if it's the join, if it's an all in one part with cat.
My downpipe is all one piece with cat, snapped in half so got a mate to weld it.0 -
It's going to vary depending on the exact model, where you are, who you use and so on. As a very rough guide, Mr Exhaust offer pricing by model here:

Click on your car by model and year. By downpipe they probably mean the "manifold catalyst" but may mean any front link pipe fitted, or it may simply be a joint failed if you're really lucky - don't count on it though!0 -
A manifold cat-downpipe combo for my car costs more than the car is worth (hence I have a spare car for spares)!0

Oh right, thanks for your help guys. I'll see what they say tomorrow when I take it in.
Just a quick last question because I'm not overly car savvy;
Why can the car pass the overall emissions test, but fail the Mot due to a leak of gases?
Thanks again!0 -
The emissions are measured at the tail pipe only, if all the nasties are not getting there they cannot be measured0

Because the gasses are escaping from the downpipe, so there's less gasses coming out of the tail pipe where they measure it.0 -
Because the % of whats in the gases at the tailpipe is within spec.0

Is tha because the down pipe is leaking?0 -

I don't think so, shouldn't change the % content of what reaches the back.0
