As for sent securely, they are sent no different to any other special delivery letter.

Post Office check and send is one of the biggest legal rip offs going.

Special Delivery is very secure as one can even post money and be compensated should a problem arise and is guaranteed next day delivery.

There is no need for anything different at all.

Not unless they've known you personally for two years, no they can't!!!!

The passport office do check, several times my referees have had phone calls, and other people I know have had applications delayed because they haven't been able to contact the referee. I always make sure I leave a copy of the form and relevant dates and personal info for anyone who signs my form.

You misunderstood, OP didn't have to use the check & send service to have them sent securely, it's available to anyone wanting to send their passport, not something special you get by using check & send.

I know they send it special delivery, just saying the cost of doing the check and send isn't a lot. Trouble is I'm taking the wife and daughter to New York as a Xmas present so I needed the passport right first time!

So has the person at the post office who vouched for you known you personally for two years?

I hope so, otherwise you won't be getting a passport at all if they do a routine check.

I never got anyone to vouch for me when I renewed my OH's and mine passports.

Filled out the details online, paid online, printed off the forms and signed and dated them and sent them with the old passports and new photos, without glasses, got the new passports a week later.
