This thread is cows testes. Pressure selling in no way. She was doing her job and you acted belligerently because of that. How bitter...

Afraid cows don't have testes ;)

    Sorry, couldn't resist it.

In September BT wrote to me saying they will increase my charges from 1st December.
Having taken the trouble to read their conditions I knew that I had the right to cancel the contract if they put up their charges.
While they agreed with Ofcom, that cancellation on notification of increased charges without penalty was acceptable, they don't mention it in their letter. Other companies do.
Another sneaky thing they do is, try to negotiate a new deal, to try to stop you from leaving, if you fall for this, you are instantly within minutes, placed on a new contract – this enable them to get round the Distance Selling Directive, where normally you have a few days to consider the new deal and reject it, it you feel you have been pressured or conned.
Take care, they are greedy people.

    Perry525,

BT, in common with many other companies, will always try to offer you a new deal to stop you leaving, and why shouldn't they. There is nothing sneaky about it, it is simply good business practice on their part.

It's really quite simple to deal with them. Work out what kind of deal you actually want at renewal time, before you phone them, and if what they offer betters what you wanted then take it. If it doesn't match what you want, tell them what you want and see what they can come up with. If they can't match what you want, then leave. Of course it helps if you know what deals are available from other companies beforehand.

I did cancel BT Sports as I said. I did not cancel the telephone/broadband package.

In essence, I am very pleased very with their service but unpleased with their selling approach.

How did this pointless cancellation (when you could have continued to get it free till next Feb) register your displeasure with their "selling approach" - she tried to point out to you that cancelling now was pointless, didn't she?

So you are now paying the same as before but getting less service for your money!

And now we have the facts, what is the point of your thread on this moneysaving website?

So you are now paying the same amount for fewer services! I can only see one winner there.

    So you belittle me (-:

    Let me try again.

They offered me BT Sport free of charge in consideration of my extending my contract by another 12 months.

The value of this consideration is £6.75 per month.

But BT Sport is of little value to me and my household.

So I cancelled something that was of little value.

But the BT call centre operative told me that come February I will be able to telephone to access another deal not involving BT Sport.

Last year, I contracted for an additional 12 months and got a free modem upgrade. So I was a winner and SAVED MONEY.

So we are talking money saving. BT is prepared to give something of value in exchange for a contract extension. If I kept BT Sport then I would have foregone that opportunity.

Yes, I cancelled three months early, but BT Sport of is virtually valueless to me.

Are you currently paying for BT Sport ??or is it free under your current contract that expires in February .

    Perhaps, I was still unclear.

BT Sport was included within my package, free of additional charge, subject to my agreeing a fixed term 12 month contract extension at the date when the fixed term contract would otherwise have expired. It is nominally valued at £6.75.

In cancelling BT Sport, I do not have to agree to a fixed term extension of 12 months. Therefore from February onwards I am free to terminate my contract with BT without having to compensate BT for my early termination.

However, as BT has suggested, I may be able to agree better terms in February (having foregone BT Sport) in consideration of my agreeing to renew my contract for another 12 month.

It is money saving. The illusion is that Sky Sport is free. It is not free: it is conditional.

    More irrelevant ranting!

If you know a way to get sky sport "free" that would be moneysaving!

But if you want to rant about BT's "sales approach" or Sky's conditions why not use the ranting forum?

Sky Sport has never been free to BT customers. It is an entirely separate subscription, to an entirely different company.

Really, I can't see where you were hoping to go with this thread. Your example of "pressure selling" was not that at all and now you are (finally) saying that cancelling BT Sport three months early was somehow "money saving" even though you are still paying what you were before?

    How are you saving money?

You agreed a 12 month contract to get free BT sport, and now are telling us you are better off by cancelling it now instead of next February when the 12 months ends???
