Sounds like DS1 is ready for a "teenager exchange" trip. For this you need good ol' mates with similar age kids who live somewhere far enough away that DS1 can't throw a paddy & demand to come home the first time a life lesson hits. Mine were sent to Eire [DS1 & 3], another area in Spain [DS2] and France [DS4], each for about a month, sometime between ages 12 & 14, as I recall. Did 'em all the World of good - we hosted Old Mates' kids in return, of course.

It's amazing how much a young teen matures when transplanted into another family with whom you already have strong connections.
Cheaper option too; we never exchanged housekeeping as that equalled out, so it's the flights and optional pocket-money only. When hosting, I suppose our food costs were a bit higher, and we did have some extra excursions while our Ol' Mates' various offspring were staying with us - but mostly managed that by arranging visits to coincide with birthdays, so special trips / adventures were happening anyway.

I didn't realise it at the time, but a bonus long-term effect is that my lads are carrying on our [my & DH's] friendships into their generation - and they've always got somewhere interesting to pop over to for a cheap break.

  • Robin that sounds fantastic, but save for relatives in australia I can't think who I could palm him off on :o. Will think harder as it's probably just what he needs!

Took the dog to the beach again today, but didn't realise that there was an event on so it was super busy. A local Dad wanted to take his terminally ill son for a last motorbike ride, and hundreds of bikers turned up to join them. :A. Food for thought after my quarrels with DS1.

Today has been a NSD :T. Got everything crossed that I've added up correctly and all bills will be covered tomorrow. We get more money on Tuesday and Wednesday.

That's so sad about the bike ride, but what a lovely thing to do.

You're lucky to live so close to the beach, our nearest one is over 70 miles away.

Hooray for money coming in :)

I was a lone parent to my DS.
We had lots and lots of trials and tribulations but i used to say to him I maybe dont like you at the moment but I will always love you.
But wow it was hard. There were times I dident think he wouldent finish school far less anything else.
I am so proud of the person he has become & the direcction his life is taking. I miss him to bits but I had to let him go to let him fly in the way that he has chosen.
All going well he will gradute in June & go on to do his Masters in September.

  • You've done a fab job Beanie! Lovely to hear there might be light at the end of the tunnel at some point too. To be fair, he's been better the last couple of days :T. He even found $7 he had stashed away somewhere from our holiday 10 years ago!! Duly added to holiday pot!

Lost 3.5lbs at chub club, making 11.5lbs off in 3 weeks :j.

My cousin gave me a tip about a UK website that sells Florida theme park tickets. I can buy 14 day tickets (even though I don't need that long!!) for less than the price of 2 day tickets :T. Will be ordering those as soon as I can!!

Thanks BM! This time in 12 weeks we'll be at the airport!! Eeek.

I'm loaded with cold today. DH had a bad day yesterday, angry outbursts and getting everything mixed up more than usual. I genuinely couldn't be bothered with it all as I could tell I was coming down with something. He's a bit better today so fingers crossed I can get a bit of peace!

We all got our hair cut yesterday. £31 for all 4 of us which I thought was quite good. Will get the boys done again before Florida.

Last day at school before Easter hols today :j.

  • No peace to be had as DH had a partial seizure earlier. He went for a lie down but has been very slow and devoid of energy since he got back up. On a positive note, DS1 actually OFFERED to take Oakley out so I could stay in and watch DH :T.

    Still full of cold :(.

My new passport arrived today :T. That's 1/4 back .

I heard today that my Carer's Support payment will be paid again this year :j. Last time we did Legoland/Harry Potter Studios with it. Looking forward to deciding what to do this year :D Xx
