This is where you need assertiveness help my sweet Luckystar! There is lots of self help about it online but also look up "over-compliance".. i see this in soo many of my clients and even in myself (trying to work on it still) but don't beat yourself up, it is something you can improve and that will help you majorly in those situations.. I'm so sorry about friday fun though :( hope thursday fun was fun though :)xxxxx
ps: are you sure she wasn't manipulating you by saying your holiday may had not gone through, to get you to agree to work on the friday? call me cynical but i've seen it all with employers and their tricks.. argh.. and they exploit the lovely ones most xxxxx

  • Thanks Hun, I shall look into it online. I've spoken to the Counsellor a few times about how I have an overwhelming urge to help people out/please them, but I haven't thought about it from a lack of assertiveness view point Xx

  •:mad: If I thought I was annoyed yesterday then I hadn't seen anything yet! Got to work today, having arranged for MiL to collect DH from home and then both boys from their schools, left written instructions on what was to be for their tea, and having missed FFF..... Only to be told it was next Friday I'm needed not today :mad::mad:.

I'm so angry! This now means I'm working Friday AND Saturday next week and I wasted diesel going there today. I know I probably sound all princessy and dramatic considering the amount of hours I work, but it takes such effort to get everything sorted so I can go to work and I hate it when it's all for nothing. I equally hate it when I have to do it two days in a row. It all goes back to is it worth it??

Levi, I only just saw the PS bit of your last post sorry. I think you are spot on Xx

  • Thanks Beanie. Have calmed down slightly now :o Xx

Busy weekend. Bit of shopping and some time at the skate park with the boys yesterday in the morning, followed by the wedding 'do' in the afternoon which was great. Spent less than £10 and they had hired a bouncy castle for the kids so they were happy.

Kids woke us up at 6.30am this morning for Father's Day! So much for their late night last night granting us all a lie in!! Went swimming this morning and have just been doing jobs this afternoon. Listed more stuff on eb@y too and have sold a couple more things. Weather has been weird here, chucking it down one minute and bright and sunny the next. My washing got soaked a few times before it finally dried.

DH has just had a wave of fear while I've been typing this. He also did a little bit of 'chewing/eating'. Not good at all :(. Xx

Dearest Lucky, I think it's time you reiterated to HR what your contractual hours constitute, and that your carers responsibilities make it virtually unworkable to reschedule without one months' notice.

Reword as required, but honestly that "superviser" WAS taking the mickey. Who gives a monkeys whether the request has gone through - you put the request in on time (I'm assuming), so it's not your problem to get the requisite cover, that's the "supervisors" problem.

Please do not go to work next Friday or Saturday, you have already covered your hours. Your only duty is to alert them to the fact that you won't be at work.

Hope the waves of fear have receded.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

    Hi Lucky

Couldn't agree with Satchmo more. It isn't your problem.

BUT... I am going back to work on Weds an hour late to attend a hospital appointment. I will work back hours I am allowed tot make as it is a hospital appointment... but I feel required to do so, silently.

Add that Him has been asked to go to work an hour prior to his contractual obligations on the days that I work, and it happens to be on parents evening, so we have had to reschedule our meeting with Jellys teacher for far earlier and I have had to book a half day off work to cover an hour he isn't legally obliged to do. He is frightened it will impact on his future requests for time off, and the number of hours he will get :wall:

Employers sure have dirty tactics!! But it is all money in their back pockets eh, not ours?

So glad DH has been ok. And yay for continuing your tradition even though work messed it all up! Bit rubbish! Just so you know, I have binged big time tonight, so expect I shall around match your weight put on at my weigh in this week :rotfl: - our bodies... pain in the bum. xxx

Just a quick catch-up from me, big well done on the debt now being sub-2k, it really is a marvellous achievement!!

Hope OH continues to improves and the waves yesterday came to nothing.

That's rubbish about work messing you around, sounds like the boss wasn't clear about which Friday you had to work and as you were prepared to use annual leave to have the sat off I'd be tempted to say you can't get carers cover for this Friday and just do your contracted shift on sat. As others have said their problem not yours. Would be gracious to give them a bit of notice though I guess although you've managed on your own before now when there should be 4 of you so if you were suddenly ring in 'sick' I'm sure they would cope!

Hope you are feeling well in yourself, weather should be improving this week which I find always helps!!!
