Toyota Yaris Daytime Lights
Does anyone know how to switch off the daytime running lights on my new Toyota Yaris VVT-i ICON? I keep getting flashed by other motorists who think they've been left on accidentally. The dealer says it can't be done but I'm not so sure I believe him. I also have a Merc' B180 with the same daytime lights and that handbook shows how to turn them off.
By the way!! If you're thinking of buying a Yaris ... The dealer didn't tell me that, on the Yaris, there is no spare wheel or jack or wheel brace supplied (but they can - of course - be supplied for a price) ... ugh

My headlights are on all the time. I never get flashed. Is there another reason you're getting flashed?.0

It's just people mistaking you for the local celebrity Yaris driver DM.
Overtake a few people it will soon stop.0 -
Perhaps they are just happy to be able to see you.
The dealer is wrong though - a little tap with a ball-pein hammer will turn them off.
But to be serious - why are you bothered about other people's ignorance.
I had someone in Tesco's car-park this morning ask me where my tax-disc was.
I replied that I didn't have one - and he walked off shaking his head and going "Tut, Tut, Tut."
Maybe he'll report me.

OP are you sure your not getting flashed because it's dark/foggy/etc and other drivers think you only have your sidelights on?
Toyota Yaris and Nissan Micra are THE WORST offenders for failing to use lights appropriately for the conditions.
Which may explain why the DRLs cannot be turned off on those cars.... An idiot proof safety feature if you will.
I drive around in all but the brightest sunlight with my side+headlights on and nobody flashes me.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'd have thought diagnostics could turn them off.
I'd be wary of the insurance side of it, as expect it's seen as a safety item.0 -
Who on earth flashes somebody because they have lights on during the day? Haven't many Volvos had this sort of feature for years?0
