    The was an ACPO recomendation.

    Agreed, hence the "was".

However, it does seem to be followed pretty closely, at least as far as automated enforcement is concerned. In particular, the good people on pepipoo.com have yet to see any evidence of action at 34 (10% plus 1) in a 30 limit.

Hi everyone, new to the forum but i feel this is the best place for me to come to. Hopefully I get mature answers, but basically i got caught speeding :( twice! in the same spot :( I'm 18 years old and have a black box. i was going 36 whilst braking from a 60mph zone and going 38mph going accelerating a little too fast before the 60mph zone. So what are my chances of getting a speed awareness course for one of the offences? I cant loose my licence other wise I loose my job and would be horrible.
    Many thanks

You weren't driving a lexus, M3, A3, Yaris or Corolla were you?
  • Had 14 points at 18, took dads car out a spin without insurance and got a UT10 and an IN10. 7 points each.

If I got a nip through the post tomorrow, I'd wait 14 days before replying. Just incase there were any more on their way.

The OP's not been lucky, it's just the way it works.

I think 34 was the cut off when I did a speed awareness workshop, was about 8 years ago though.
I was doing 38, which was the upper limit.
Lucky I was taking it steady that day.
  • Hello, as a 70yr old grannie I have just had my first speeding letter. I would like advise please, I can choose a fine £100 or course £80 but would I be better served going to court? It was a new car to me, my first automatic and I was doing 35 in a 30 at tea time. I had only had the car 5 days and only using it the 2nd or 3rd time. Help please, should I just go on the course? or would I maybe get help from a court appearance. No points ever.

Take the course or the points.

Unfortunately, the court isn't going to care how new the car was or how un-used to driving it you were. You'll end up walking out with the same or greater fine, whereas the course will cost you £100 and four hours of your life, with no major impact.

Equally, the points and fine will have little bearing on things going forward. Probably won't even make any difference to insurance costs, or minimal difference if at all.

What would your mitigation be, being a bit daft? :p
Do the course, you will learn a lot - treat it like a refresher, which everyone should have :)
