  • Oh Beanie I missed wishing you Happy Birthday , I wish it you today belatedly. Sorry to hear about the council tax saga , they need to chase people who don't pay.

I laughed when I read about you being asked to contribute to hair for the birthday girl, most ridiculous and absurd thing I have ever heard, glad you stuck to your guns.

Hope the week ahead is better all round for you.
Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.

  • I'm sorry I missed your birthday Beanie :o. Happy belated birthday :bdaycake: and I hope the upsetting news about the council tax rise didn't ruin it for you.

I wouldn't contribute towards the bride's hair either, that's insane  I did my own hair and make up for my wedding. If you can't afford it then don't do it is my motto, don't expect other people to pay for it .

Yes, that is true on the single occupancy.
It is the council tax reduction that has been removed.
I suppose I am lucky they dident fine me for not notifying them!

Sorry I've been away since you replied.

Have you checked their rules for Council Tax Reduction, each council do their own but are all broadly similar.
I cannot believe that taking in a lodger for a short time makes you lose all your CTR for the rest of the year.
I know you called up but I know from the councils I deal with for work that half the ones who answer the phone don't know what they are talking about, often I tell them the correct answer!!

I would email/write in and ask for a reconsideration and tell them the dates you had the lodger and ask them to look at your claim again.

If this is truly in their regulations then I will eat my hat!!!!

    Thanks EE.
I have been in touch with them again
    Will see what transpires.
Got a lecture about not notifying them in a timely manner.
Apparantly made more difficult to deal with as it's not in real time!

Ooh hope the answer goes in your favour Beanie.
I’m with you on the hairdo contribution for your friend. I know we sometimes pay for the birthday girl’s meal within a certain friend group - but it’s between a few of us and THAT is the present we don’t buy extras. A present is a gift you want to contribute to not something you have to do.
    Keep on plodding
