Beanie - re the bathroom ceiling, I have a similar issue with mine, and indeed all over my very damp flat. I have been using astonish mould & mildew remover (Savers, pound shop, etc etc) after trying frankly EVERYTHING under the sun to get rid of it, same with the grout and the walls. One squirt of that and it literally ran down the walls. I sprayed it on a mop head and rubbed it over the ceiling and it was gone instantly and has taken a year to start coming back! For a pound a bottle it is well well worth it! Green bottle, dark blue spray lid.
If it is a stain coming through, you will need to buy a stain blocker to stop it from coming through the next layer of paint and paint that on first.xx

I'll match you on the gardener and I raise you one cleaner!!! If I could afford it I would gladly pay someone to clean and keep on top of the garden! Sounds like you have had a productive few days though! Just watch you don't over do it!1
