Toyota I think. DS discounted a couple of others for me. My lease still has a year to run as it was extended. I am leaning towards ending lease early as I am worried about all the big price rises due to come in with the motability scheme.skint_spice said:Still awake? If you can lock in prices ahead of rises by ending the lease early then it might well be worth doing. I don't know much about the scheme though and increases.
Toyota's a nice reliable brand though.
Alternatively, If you aren't driving very much, could you get taxis instead when you do need a car?"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2 -
The difficulty is there is only one taxi and he does all sorts of school stuff through the day and is not available.jwil said:If you can lock in prices ahead of rises by ending the lease early then it might well be worth doing. I don't know much about the scheme though and increases.

Then if you can save money, it's definitely worth doing. My previous car was a Toyota and I didn't have a problem with it in the whole time I had it until the day it died."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Your comments struck a chord because it mirrored a conversation I had with a friend in the USA who has had a fall and blood clots and lots of health issues and cannot drive at the moment and whose car needs fixing. I said get it fixed regardless of what your children say - the car represents freedom and choices.
I think dear @beanielou the same might be true for you. If you had alternatives then maybe going without a car saves money but there is an emotional cost to that too (I know this one when I was without a car I felt trapped as there is no taxi service in the village). So if you can work out a way to do the car and save money then do - no idea on makes though
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -
The one thing I dread is my eyesight getting too bad for me to drive. Even though I know I am still fine I can hear myself anxiously asking the optician, am I still alright to drive? I feel like Mel Gibson shouting FREEDOM! If I do have to stop I think I will get one of those vehicles that I can ride on the pavement & try running people over.4

Happy New Year Beanie (sorry it’s a bit late). Hoping that karma will come into play for you this year as you do so much to help others on here and in rl seems fair to be returned to you! I have a Toyota hybrid but it does need driving regularly as when we were away for 4 weeks it wouldn’t start when we got back.2
